Hi everyone. I stumbled across this site last night while doing some Mac NTFS research and I was captivated by it so I thought I would become a regular member. After a lot of research and frustration I have decided to go from being a hard core Windows user to a Macintosh user.I have owned my MacBook Pro now for a couple of weeks and I have to say that I love it. Not once has it crashed on me majorly nor has it slowed down on me even after installing the BootCamp beta and numerous different software packages. It is good to run a laptop that doesn't take 20 minutes to boot up (like my old IBM Celeron machine) and also has a number of useful features and not to mention looks good.
I do have some gripes about it though - I don't like it how you cannot close the lid when the laptop is on without it staying on and also unlike some PCs a lot of the useful everyday features that are used on your laptop are turned off by default. Plus I am fussy so it took me a while to find an email client that suits me.
The main thing I do like, however, is that I can run Windows XP on it!! Honestly, I think it is brilliant and it feels like I have purchased two laptops in one. I have fiddled around with both VMWare Fusion and the BootCamp Beta and these are two wonderful and exciting tools. If you were to have something like these running on a PC you would end up killing your machine but on my MacBook I dont feel any decrease in performance at all! I am greatly anticipating the release of Leopard.
So I think now I have finally been converted!!! I have fiddled around with Macs before as part of my job as a systems engineer but these Intel based ones really do kick some serious butt.
Cheers

Welcome! Welcome to the bright side...we're glad to have you aboard Thanks very much for saying you were "captivated" by the site...makes me feel very chuffed. Feel free to post any questions you have in the forum and note in particular that there is a section on running other operating systems... http://www.nzmac.com/component/option,com_fireboard/Itemid,259/func,showcat/catid,15/ I agree with your 2 laptop in one comment....I have to support staff who use PCs and since I got my laptop, the old PC on my office hasn't been started up once...although I miss the heat (not the noise) it put out on a cold winters day. |

I'm in the same boat as you Cap'n (some degree of pun intended). I'm a Systems Engineer who is forced to spend my days working for Windows while wanting to get home so I can use my Mac. I take it into work every so often and have on many occassion used my Mac to convert... f i l e s ... to DVD making... said files... look great. I've run two videos at the same time while copying one of them to a USB drive whereas on my work laptop I have trouble running one video. Glad to see you love the Mac, once you get used to it you'll wonder how you stayed away for so long. |
