My wife is not a big computer user, she thinks I’m a geek that spends way too much time on a PC I guess I do spend a bit of time, however what she fails to realize and in fact what the average person does fail as well is that there are many variances of what a “geek” is. My geek-ness barely scratches the surface.
Being married to me “aka the Geek husband” means she is surrounded by gadgets and electronic devices. Most of them work and then is the pile that used to work but no longer do.
I’m not sure if my wife ever used a PC before Imet her, I moved in and to her horror so did all my computers. Over the years she has started using a PC but her interest only goes as far as to check email, look on trade-me or ebay (and buy!) and more recently facebook. (Apparently she has more facebook friends than me, I told her I don’t care)
We normally have a spare PC in the house (working) that she could use, but because it’s a desktop PC and it’s in the other room it’s rarely used. Instead she would jump on my laptop (now Macbook) to do her stuff.
Being that I permanently attached to my new Macbook, she’s found it a bit harder to get online at home. So occasionally I’m asked to share the Macbook…. I’m not that good at sharing; I mean I don’t ask to share her clothes do I!
Something had to be done.
For her, I decided to buy her a Mac. It wasn’t going to be a new one because spending big $$ on Mac where it is only used every so often doesn’t make any financial sense (unless you fall into the category of “we can” cause money doesn’t matter, however we don’t fall into that category)
The really cool thing is that she actually likes using the Mac, her comment to her ‘girl’friends is that my Husbands new Macbook has icons at the bottom of the screen that enlarge as you run the mouse over them and Macs are cool because of that.
I got her an iBook G3, 900Mhz 640mb ram 40GB hdd off trade-me for a good price. Suits her very well and it will be handy to take away on short trips (there will be times I wont need the power of the Macbook pro to check email abroad!)
She’s happy and I don’t have to continue sharing, our Daughter shares it with her.
I kid you not, our Little 3yr old daughter is actually learning how to type on the iBook. She can identify the letters, spell her name, my wife’s name and my name She’ll be a Mac user from an early age. ☺
Now that our Family is Mac users, I’ve made an executive decision to get rid of all the PCs in the house and all the bits in the garage. Barr two exceptions because I still need to run two PC based machines; the Xbox (as that’s our Media machine) and the Server in the garage holding all the Media (which is actually running 24/7 on Ubuntu Linux)
Furthermore, my in-laws have a windows PC that they got a few years ago. They are getting frustrated with it playing up. I’ve convinced them to go Mac as well and they have left it up to me to sort them an iBook.
We’re all going Mac…
