It's been almost a year and a half since the last podcast on NZMac.com. I'm thrilled to announce a roundtable discussion between some users of the NZMac.com community. We gathered via Skype to discuss the past year and what we see ahead of us with regards all things Apple. It is intended to be the first of an occasional series. Click here to subscribe in iTunes or here for the RSS feed.
My thanks to the following who participated in the discussion (listed by forum names)....
DavidNZ - David is an academic from Dunedin (and the person who first put forward the idea of the roundtable podcast ) who started out on Mac with a Powerbook 165, then an LC II, then a IIci, and then went to Windows for about 10 years (out of necessity). He rejoined the mac world in November 2006 with a black MacBook, but emailed the other day to say he’s now using a brand new MacBook Pro!
Nikkazboi - A switcher since 2003. First Apple product - iBook g4 800 MHZ lasted for many years and was the prime machine behind the Nick and Jayne Show. His final Power PC was the first 20" G5 iMac. Currently he's on a Macbook Pro as of October last year. He says that he has been through 12 iPods and is currently using an iPhone 3G 16GB. Mick is a New Zealand Broadcasting School student, a freelance video editor and a Blogger.
Mention goes also to Duck, who was unable to participate, but sent through his comments, which were mentioned in the podcast.
I'd like to thank David and Nick for participating...especially after cancelling the planned discussion a couple of times during the course of the year.
Please watch the forums later in 2009 for an opportunity to participate in another roundtable. Priority will be given to site users, particularly those who contribute on a regular basis to the NZMac.com community and who may not have had the opportunity to be involved in similar activities before. I also have no objections (if I'm unable to participate) in someone else organising a podcast through me, which then gets published on the site.
Regards...and a happy Christmas and New Year to you all.
Philip Roy

I really badly explained what I was getting at in the podcast about iLife and the iPhone. I came up with a better concept...iPhone widgets. Widgets that you create in the next version of the iApps and can then share in some way with friends. I can't see it coming to fruition, but I hope that better explains what I was trying to get at. I think everyone got the gist of what you were saying. I like the idea and I guess that's what is probably going to happen with Web Apps when Apple releases Safari 4 (which incidentally I've had a play with and it is pretty awesome). I loved the podcast. That's exactly how I envisaged it working and it came out great. I'm still not going back on what I said about iMovie '08 though. |

I have to laugh....if you remember David, the first thing I asked when I came online was if I was tool loud. We use a web-conferencing system at work called Adobe Connect and everyone always says I'm loud. So with a few minutes to go, I lowered the gain on my mic, when I shouldn't have...should have left it and it all would have been OK...I just would have lowered us all down. I like Audacity for normalising, but it kept crashing...so I put it all back into GarageBand.....don't think it normalised as well as it could have. |

That's funny because I found Phil to be really quiet, Nick was a little quiet as well but I found Dave to be about right. It was funny with Nick because it seemed like his mic kept flaking out on one word and it gave the impression he was saying naughty words though he wasn't. These issues will get sorted as more are done and you get used to the process and tricks. Really hoping these become regular because it sounded like so much fun. |
