ImageThe aim of the podcast feature of this site is to continue the goals of NZMac.com, by involving users of the site and Mac users within New Zealand (as well as the occasional guest) to author and contribute a podcast for broadcast.

You are most welcome to get in touch if you are interested in contributing a podcast to be broadcast on the site. Please be aware that as the podcasts will only occur every three weeks, there may be some time interval between your offer and the actual broadcast of a podcast by you. Check out the schedule here . Some users from overseas may be invited to contribute podcasts on occasion.

Check out how to do a podcast here, then please read the following information about the podcasts and then use the Contact Form for the site to get in touch if you are interested.

Each podcast will comprise:

  • Opening sequence:
    • Audio podcast - an introductory sound bite from NZMac.com
    • Enhanced/Video podcast - an introductory sound bite and graphic from NZMac.com, as well as a URL link to the site within the podcast
  • A small sound bite - "Sponsored by X - URL" if podcasts from the site receive sponsorship
  • An opinion piece/commentary/discussion/reflection piece by the invited podcaster (of no more than two minutes duration) with a 'Mac-related' focus and preferably a New Zealand focus also
  • Closing sequence:
    • Audio podcast - a disclaimer sound bite from NZMac.com
    • Enhanced/Video podcast - a disclaimer sound bite and graphic from NZMac.com, as well as a URL link to the site within the podcast

Podcasters must:

  • Deliver the podcast via email at least one week prior to its scheduled publication
  • Provide a podcast of no more than three minutes duration that is of high audio quality (MP4, MP3, WAV or AIFF format) [Note to GarageBand users - Please make sure you're aware of whether GarageBand is displaying the number of seconds recorded or other readings, such as bars, tempo or beats)
  • Confirm by email that any music included (which must be relevant to the podcast) is an original composition by them
  • Appreciate that swearing, abuse, unsubstantiated claims etc will not be accepted - common decency applies
  • Confirm by their submission that they:
    • Grant NZMac.com the right to publish and broadcast the audio file and link to it via the iTunes podcast service
    • Accept that the podcast will feature the four components (introduction, podcast, disclaimer, sponsorship statement) mentioned earlier
    • Accept that NZMac.com may choose to edit the podcast, but this will be done in consultation with the invited podcaster
  • Confirm that their podcast does not make defamatory statements and does not infringe copyright
  • Accept that NZMac.com reserves the right to reject a podcast. In these instances, NZMac.com will endeavour to resolve the situation with the invited podcaster
  • Not use the podcast to promote a service, sale or specific product that they are involved with either directly or indirectly. However, acceptable statements within the podcast (that must related to podcast content) include comments/themes such as:
    • "Check out the next issue of....for more news related to this story"
    • "Check out our website (URL) up-to-date information related to this story"
    • "You'll find more opinion pieces from me at my blog (URL)"
    • Generic "Macs are great" commentaries

Soundbites and graphics

The following files can be downloaded and incorporated into the opening and end sequences of a supplied podcast. Note that in all instances, the audio and graphics must not be manipulated or blended with other images or sounds. No other aspects of the podcast should be playing at the time.

Note that it is up to you as to whether you add these in during development or else NZMac.com can add these sounds and images into the podcast for you before publishing.

Publishing of the podcasts on the Internet

Podcasts will be published to a .Mac account and will be publicly accessible via a link to the file and from within iTunes. NZMac.com supports a "NoDerivs-NonCommercial 1.0" Creative Commons license for the podcasts that will allow others to copy and distribute the work, but does not allow for commercial use or modifications of the work. As iTunes requires information about the source and publisher, the copyright holder will be listed as NZMac.com, the accompanying photo/image of the podcast will be an NZMac.com logo and items will be listed as being posted by Philip Roy.
