We've got our first set of images in from Peter Mellow who went to Ubertec in Auckland to get his hands on a copy of Tiger. Peter comments that the stacking of the shelves took place at around 5.50pm (10 minutes before sale time), that many Renaissance staff were their to celebrate the event. He also commented that lots of pre-ordered copies when out and lots of people were there buying a copy. All the people went into a draw to win an iPod Shuffle.

Belinda Carter reports from Christchurch...

Apple Education staff (the ones sporting dashboard T-shirts), who had barely had a couple of hours themselves to play with the widgets demoed some of the 200 or so new features of Tiger when it launched at MagnumMac head office in Christchurch at 6pm NZST. While some of us explored what Tiger had to offer on the store computers, a queue lined up to pay for the privilege of being among the first in the world to obtain retail copies and to enter a competition for an iPod shuffle.

Ian Matsell of MagnumMac in Auckland reports....

The first Tiger buyers started arriving at 5.00pm and waited patiently until the 6pm launch, heralded by "Eye Of The Tiger" blasting from the iPod demonstration unit. Steve Ford, General Manager of Renaissance Apple Division gave a brief introduction to Tiger, followed by a photocall with Mr Matt Wildbore, MagnumMac Auckland's first Tiger owner.

MagnumMac and Renaissance staff were then swamped with buyers keen to get their copy of Tiger with nearly 40 copies sold in the first 15 minutes alone.

Having made their purchase, many customers stayed on to watch the Tiger presentation in the theatrette presented by Renaissance Carl Gamble, or wander off and try out Tiger for themselves on the myriad of Macs running Tiger in the showroom.

An enjoyable and exciting evening was had by all, culminating in the prize draw for the 1 gb iPod Shuffle which was won by Mr Francois Berquin of Auckland.
