That's great Phil. Welcome Roger!

I wonder if Roger can confirm the release date that I had heard from somebody who was at NECC. They said that we can expect to see it around October sometime.

I suppose the biggest thing I could ask for is stability. The last stable version of HS was 3.3 - when version 4 came out it seemed to crash quite regularly which caused some newer adopters to be turned off the program. As it has been over 5 years since a new version has come out and many of today's educators aren't familiar with it, then it will need to be stable from the get go - as teachers don't have time to be fiddling with technical issues.

Any updates on the release date yet?

Was kind of hoping we would have heard something definite by now!

www.macnn.com/articles/08/01/16/hyperstudio.5.player/

Software MacKiev has announced the release of a free HyperStudio 5 "Legacy" Player for Mac OS X. The free player, for the first time, allows stacks created in previous editions of HyperStudio to run on Mac OS X.

....A new edition of the HyperStudio authoring tool, HyperStudio 5, is nearing completion and is being demonstrated this week at the Macworld Expo

Howdy Guys,

Just so you know, before Roger sold HyperStudio, there was a web browser plug-in that allowed you to view a HS stack over the net. If you could get your IT guys to set up your school web server according to the instructions (took about 5 minutes) you could post your student's stacks on your school site. Everything you could do with a stack on a computer that had the HS player installed, you could do over the net. As long as you had the plug-in installed, you were good to go.
Roger allowed you to host the plug-in for download on your site or link to the HS web page for download.
A VERY neat way for the kids to "take home" the work they had done at school.
Knowing Roger if there is any way possible, HS 5 will have the same thing.

FYI

You might find this URL of interest. It's how I found this Forum. www.hyperstudio5.com/more_info.htm

Lord, save us from teachers that think students using PowerPointless are being creative!

Well I think I am probably OK in saying that HS 5 does indeed have a web plug-in as other versions have had. I've actually got a beta of HS 5 that Roger has kindly provided for me to look at.

I've emailed a complaint to him though...HS 5 is very cool! My complaint is that I have soooo much work on at the moment (new site relaunch, presentation for conference to prepare, final assignment due) that having HyperStudio to play with keeps stopping me doing all those things.

I hope to publish something around the time that the software is launched (have no idea when that will be) but other than that all I can probably say is that I think former users will be very pleased to see HS back, and new users will realise what a great piece of software it is.

Cheers,

Phil
