Tiger has arrived in schools! 3 Years, 4 Months ago
We had a Tiger disk turn up at school today!!

At first I thought it was our Tiger Server that we should be getting as part of the maintenance contract we bought with Panther Server which entitlesd us to free upgrades for the 3 year duration of the contract.

But no it was an OS X Tiger Single Client DVD. No covering letter or anything, just a delivery docket to say it was shipped from Singapore on 29th April.

Spoke to some colleagues in other schools and they too received this strange gift.

As it turns out, last year when we recieved our free Apple software (Panther, iLife 04 and Keynote) from the Ministry of Ed. we didn't realise we would automatically get an upgrade. We have had no communication from Apple to say we would, but here it is!

Well done Apple NZ and MOE (assuming they had a hand in it somehow)

Anybody else here involved with schools and received the free update?

Anybody else here involved with schools and received the free update? At Massey Uni we had (don't know if we still do) the option of paying for a machine license that includes all upgrades for 3 years on that machine. But I suspect the deal you are talking about does not include the tertiary sector.

Yeah that one sounds like our 'Maintenance Plan' for our Server.

It cost something around $1K for the plan which I'm sure has been recouped with the free upgrade to Tiger Server (unlimited client). So if another upgrade comes out in the next 2 years we'll be up on the deal!!

The other software deal I think did not include Tertiary. Similar to MS's software for schools.
