Submarine game 1 Year, 3 Months ago
Years ago I had a submarine game on my (now ancient) Mac where you controlled a sub to attack, escape etc. Has anyone seen a similar game for the current Mac technology? Thanks, Jens

Hi Jens, greetings from Christchurch!

I came across this the other day, l have not tried it myself yet but looks interesting. It is still only in it's early stages so can only get better. Worth a look

Danger from the Deep: [img][/img]

a free open source World War II German submarine simulator, was recently ported to OS X. DftD focuses on realism and strategy rather than arcade action. The game is currently in a playable alpha state with the final version intended to offer network play and wolfpack or destroyer vs. submarine matches.

DftD is realistic and interesting to play, has good graphics and sounds but with more emphasis on strategy and realism. The game's purpose is not to glorify war, but to understand strategy and tactics.

Credits go to Fl0r!an and -Nuke- from the Games4Mac.de Community for bringing us the Mac port. Interestingly enough, Danger from the Deep is the only Submarine simulator of its kind to appear on Mac OS X.

DftD is planned as tactical simulation and will be as realistic as time and knowledge of physics allows. It's current state is ALPHA, but it is still highly playable.

The hope is that the final version will include network play and wolf-pack or destroyer versus submarine matches. The program and source code is available under the GPL license and most of the artwork/data is released under a Creative Commons license (Attribution/NonCommercial/Non-Derivative works).
Danger from the Deep requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later, and ATI or Nvidia graphics (Intel GMA 950 is not supported).

Head over to Macologist for more information. DftD can be downloaded from Macgamefiles.com at the link below.

Kind regards,

DJO :) :)

Apprently it won't run on the MacBooks and Mac Minis because it doesn't support the Intel chipset.

I think you'll find the Mac mini and the mac book are not supported because of the intergrated graphics chip not being supported.
intel macs with ATi graphics should work fine. Rosetta should take care of the PPC code.

Works great on my Macbook pro 2GHz

That's what I said only I forgot the "video" from the sentence "Intel Chipset" so it should have read "Intel Video Chipset".

Never been a fan of the Intel VIDEO () chipset. It's always been pathetic for games. Either Intel should DROP the video chipset or make proper video cards that don't use shared memory. Don't see that happening somehow.
