Macworld Magazine 1 Month ago
I subscribe to macworld and on their website they advertise Subscribe Now and get a Bonus CDRom etc etc, usual advertising blurb, well I got my first macworld magazine and guess what NO CDROm not what was advertised.

i sent a email to them and guess what, they are not interested, I got a silly We are sorry for the experience you had and we ran out of stock (what joke) why keep advertising.....

has any body has this issue with www.macworld.com

I informed Macworld that this is not good for mac users as they advertise this and if they where in New Zealand Commerce Commission would be on their backs good and proper, so how come they got away with slipping me through the cracks when I Ordered the magazine in February 2008

Any comments from other users on this issue??

They get away with it for the reasons you state. They aren't in NZ.

I get their magazine electronically. Personally I think their CDs are a waste of space....it's just stuff off the net that you can download anyway.

delivery.

If you should need further assistance, please be sure to include all
previous e-mail correspondence.

Thank you for subscribing to Macworld.

There was MacGuide, but that's no longer published :|

Over the years I have bought the occasional overseas Mac magazine - but with the rise of the web mac sites circa 2000, I found that the information within was often on the web well before the paper copy arrived. The only advantage to the magazines were the cover CD's - and at the prices the magazines were at, I only ever bought the odd one.

Are you actually dealing with the MacWorld company directly? A lot of US Magazine publishers end up supplying international customers through third parties.

Well of course NZ used to have it's own EXCELLENT Mac mag, NZ MacGuide, which died about a year ago sadly.

In the early 1990's there used to be an "Australian and New Zealand MacWorld" but that changed in the mid 90's to 'Australian MacWorld' which is still published, but I hardly ever see it in NZ bookshops. It is just a smaller version of the US mag, some local articles but mainly the same that come in the US version. The thing I like about it is that it costs about $7.95 Australian, a price I am happy to pay for. But most of the other imported Mac Mags in NZ are $14 - $20+

I would have thought with the death of NZ MacGuide, the Australian MacWorld would have tried to pick up the sub $10 NZ Mac market that MacGuide lived in, but the Aussies don't seem to want to sell any more of their mags. I emailed the editor about this twice and have never got a reply.

Why Doesn't New Zealand NZMac.com users make up a newsletter or magazine for mac users in PDF to be emailed out etc to registered users.

We all can come up with something after all we all are different in different ways and I am sure Phil would be happy to assist (if we be nice to him) and get something going for mac users.

What do you think??

Re:Macworld Magazine 1 Month ago
Sorry, count me out. Why?

* MacTalk (oz site) did one and never did another because of how much work it took
* It detracts from the site...I'd kinda like you to visit here more rather than read PDFs..it's hard to generate any income as it is
* For example...being too honest....last month I offered 2 backpacks for anyone who wrote a blog entry...I got one person. This month, 2 x $25 of iTunes for a quick tip...which isn't that hard to do. One entry so far

I am more than willing...in fact, over the moon, to accept content for this site, but the reality is that people aren't creating it. There is the facility to write opinion pieces, submit news, write stories etc....but it tends not to happen. If you wander the forum you'll see me often ask people if they'd be prepared to write a review, I get a yes (MacBook Air springs to mind.....just seen one here in Kuala Lumpur...my first Air...wow!!) and then I don't hear from people.

So sorry, PDF idea is great, but I don't think do-able.

Cheers,

Phil

Re:Macworld Magazine 1 Month ago
Much as I like the tactile feel of thumbing through a magazine and reading about Mac's, my understanding is that many magazines are in decline due to the Internet. Digital publishing allows us to read more up to date information than having to wait a month for the next issue. Sadly, magazines are a technology from last century, and while I think they will be with us for a while longer, I must say that I prefer reading off a screen now. But it has taken a few years to get to this point!

As for Phil's comments. I think while deep down inside I am a lurker and like reading everyone else's postings, many of us feel too busy to write an article even though we would like to, or even feel obliged to to make our contribution. I suppose in the end it is about priorities. If it is important to you, you will do it. Anyway, thanks to everyone else for writing, I like reading it! Cheers!
