Stuttering internet connection 1 Month, 1 Week ago
Hi! New guy here...I have been using ihug for over a year now..but am at my wits end with having to restart the modem approx. 10-15 times per day. We use an iMac and MacBook with an airport express and D-LINK DSL 302G modem.
The freezing of the connection can even happen mid-surf...although this is rare. Mostly have to restart it after the computer has gone to sleep etc...

Has anyone had this problem or know of anyone who would come and look at it professionally??

Steve

And are you with Ihug also? If so...maybe you need to give them a call.

I am indeed with ihug. Thought that it might be my particular modem/wireless router setup or electric-fence noise creating the issue. Interesting to hear that I'm no the only one.

Have you poke arounf in other forums or googled it to see if other (non-mac) users are having this issue?

I run a mixed ubuntu/mac/occasional windows OS setup and wired 100/1000 and 802.11G/b networking at home and the issue is not restricted to just one platform - hence my thoughts about router/access point hardware.

All iHug suggest is to unplug the phone overnight to see if that helps...it doesn't..and apparently Telecom charge to check out the line if there turns out to be no problem.
It's funny when we were with xtra (different modem) we never really had the problem.
As soon as they here you are using wireless connection they don't want anything to do with you...only recently did they admit to being able to help with macs!

My IHUG connection through a dlink router regularly drops off and then reconnects again automatically - it started happening at my old place and put it down to my hardware (i had a usb modem connected ot the Internet for 15 hours - i couldn't get that with my router)

Im also on wireless and sometimes when my battery gets low my connection drops off.

I used to have this problem too. I'm with ihug and have a d-link dsl 504g and an Airport Express. The problem only occurred on the iMac and not on the macbook pro. Just like Carlton it always seemed to happen when awakening the iMac from sleep.

I used to switch off the router every night, so decided to try leaving it on 24/7. I also turned off sleep (set the iMac to never sleep). At around the same time there were updates for Apple airport and Tiger which I installed.

I've not had any trouble since - but I don't know which of the above fixes was the one that worked!
