Iphone in NZ any update 2 Months, 1 Week ago
I try to keep up with what is happening in ICT news and stuff, I read lots of blogs etc but haven't found much about NZ, I was wondering if there is any rumours in regards to iphone coming our way any time soon or in 2008/9.
Just waiting very patiently to get to get one. My ipod touch is so awesome but to have the added features of a phone would just blow me away...

I would happily buy an iPhone with 2.5G right now if it was legitimately available in New Zealand.

Those screaming out for 3G clearly have a bucket load of money because 3G access here in New Zealand is a lot of cost for very little gain and Telecom's T3G is a complete and utter joke as is actually comparable to 2.5G anyway.

I simply want to make phone calls and any surfing on the Net I could do from home or through work's wireless which is much faster than 3G anyway.

I find it really interesting listening to everyones replies/comments. But what do people think of unlocked ones? I just really want one and even though in the past I have been against it is there any good reasons for not buying one and getting it unlocked. Is there a chance it could crash etc...
I presume it isn't illegal?

If you want a legitimately unlocked phone get one from France (iPhone is localised so it will use English). Due to French law cellphones have to be unlocked however you will pay full price for the iPhone and so will be paying around $1200(NZ) for it. This is not just the case with iPhones. Most smart phones bought without a contract will cost up to around $2000 without a contract and without any of the cool software in the iPhone so you're actually getting a whole lot more for a whole lot less.

The downside is you still have to hack it to get it to work in New Zealand because iTunes won't be able to authenticate it here until it is released here.

If you want to go this way you take full responsibility for it. It's ultimately your decision.

With all the hype over the last fews days regarding impending 3G and with Australia certainly on the list to get iphone - what you do think the possibility of NZ getting a carrier and phone to run it? Also if not would we be able to connect to an australian network from here??

Walt Mossberg says we'll get 3G (maybe not in NZ) in the next 60 days....

iPhone runs on GSM networks, so the only choice is Vodafone here.

About the rumoured 60 days away 3G iPhone, dont get too excited about a rumour guys!

I love my iPhone so much, I hope you all decide to get one soon, be it the current one or maybe this so called 3G version that MIGHT be coming out in a couple of months.
