iPhone unavailable? 5 Days, 13 Hours ago
Hi all,
http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2008/05/10/iphone-currently-unavailable-at-apple-store

The iPhone is unavailable in both the UK and US stores.....and rumour sites are are having a field day that this points to an announcement any moment.

Phil

With the imminent release of next gen iPhone, wise shoppers would be holding out on buying 1st gen and all its issues. Repair/service for iPhone in NZ may even be limited to 2nd gen. Also with a change in shape there will be new range of accessories over time, however there may be issues in the short term (small benefit for gen1)

US Store is sold out:
8GB - Ships: Currently Unavailable
16GB - Ships: Currently Unavailable

o2 got into some trouble in the UK, they had to quickly explain their reasons for putting the status of the iPhone as "No longer available" rather than "Currently unavailable".

They swiftly changed the notice to currently unavailable.

This sort of thing is just fuel to the fire.

Yes, I concur that there seems to be an exorbitant amount of speculation in the air. I met the hairdresser of Steve Jobs' maid who mentioned to me that she had had heard from his uncle that a former class mate of Steve's best friend might likely hear by Friday who has the iPhone exclusivity in Uganda - but I have been sworn to silence.
