NZ changes to daylight saving time + Mac Updates 10 Months, 3 Weeks ago
There has been a change in government which extends the daylight saving time in NZ. While at work I get some emails from microsoft and i notice they have been planning updates and roadshows (!) in order to combat this problem.

i was just wondering if there were going to be any updates sent out by Apple that make changes to the daylight saving settings on Macs.

Cheers

I've wondered the same thing myself but at the same time I wonder if it needs to be done. I say this because many Macs get their time from a time server so in theory the time server will make the change. Of course this is moot if the Macs aren't connected to a time server so I guess at some stage it will.

That being said, wasn't there an update not so long ago that had something to do with Daylight Savings? I'm not sure if it was meant for NZ or if it was for America which also changed their Daylight Savings details.

This is a issue because timeservers work with UTC time.
Therefore your Mac will add UTC+12 to get the current time, so it will be out one week into daylight saving, go right and then be out for the last two weeks.

Apparently you can change this on linux machines by changing the zoneinfo files with Zic, but i'm not sure if this will work with Mac machines?
Heres a example of changing it in linux: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/barf/3483

And heres a old daylight savings editor for OS 9: http://www.mactcp.org.nz/daylight.html
Do Macs still use the loc# resource?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Timeservers do take into account varying time zones and their Daylight Savings times so will automatically adjust accordingly. However, they need the correct information first. My Mac is set to grab the time from Apple's Asia server and I've never had to manually adjust.

Once again though this is dependant on the rules being set correctly but I still feel like there was an update not so long ago for Daylight Savings but once again can't remember if it included everything.

Yes, the problem is our timezone hasn't been updated to include these changes?
I think there was one for American daylight changes?

Is there a way to check the the daylight saving times on a Mac?
(I"m a Windows/Linux guy supporting Mac so background would also be appreciated.)

I remember reading that the 10.4.10 update (or perhaps the upcoming 10.4.11 update) has changes for NZ Daylight Savings time.

But yeah, if you use a time server it probably doesn't even matter.

I know I read somewhere! It stuck in my head since its not often something NZ specific is among a list of changes. Wait until 10.4.11 comes out

MacRumors 1 August 07

In wake of rumors that Apple would be releasing a Mac OS X 10.4.11 update, Apple has already seeded developers with 10.4.11 (8S2138/8S138).

A list of bug fixes has been publicly circulating, and include: AFP Server, CUPS and IPP, dyld and prebinding, CoreTextFont, ImageIO, dyld and threaded programs, SearchKit, enabling/disabling Bluetooth, CoreAudio and Safari, CoreAudio and decoding iTunes Plus files, File Manager and POSIX volumes, Daylight Savings and New Zealand time zones, Networking and Cisco VPN, Networking and UDP packets,HFS and non-existent blocks, Directory Services, AFP X Client and Kerberos, SearchKit and Zip disks, and Service Manager.

Apple last updated Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) on June 20th, 2007.

I knew I wasn't crazy!
