Assuming for a moment that Apple will not be releasing either a fix or 10.4.11 (with the fix) before the 30th, am I right in assuming that I can simply adjust my clock manually and then uncheck "Set date & time automatically" in the Date & Time preference panel?

I'll have to change my Treo 650 manually it seems, as well as the clock on my wall, so is my Macbook really any different?

I'm told this is OK as far as your own perception of what the time is on your computer, but not when it comes to talking to other computers when the UTC offset needs to be known to the OS. So if you're doing lots of internet you're likely to encounter problems pretty quickly. Apple's support for this is most unsatisfactory.

Thanks, warrens. I came across that site after posting above. Looks harmless to my non-Unix-experienced mind. I might wait until the last minute, just in case they release 10.4.11 this coming. I mean, I think they were seeding early version to developers in early August.

Another 10.4.11 seed was just released, so I doubt the final version will be released within a week.

Apple have posted an official statement on what to do about the daylight saving rules, which is to set the clock ahead an hour.

This neglects to mention that setting the clock ahead will stuff up universal time (the rest of the world will be wrong) and could have many side effects.

So far it looks like Glenn Anderson's patch (link posted by warrens) is the only reasonable solution. (Glenn is a friend of mine and I've been involved in testing this.)

Thanks, dempson. I might just go ahead and install Glenn's fix because, like many of us working in NZ, we have colleagues and business associates overseas.

Apple gets a D- from me for this.
