Home folder disappeared from Users Folder 9 Months ago
My problem is that somehow or other (obviously something I've done), my Home Folder is no longer visible in the Users Folder. It's still in the Finder toolbar so I've got access to all my stuff, but when I use Super Duper to back up user files my Home folder is missing.

I'd like to restore it to it's rightful place but I'm not sure how to go about this.

I have a MacBook Pro 2.33 GHz core2duo with 2GB RAM running 10.4.10

I'm 99.9% sure I didn't change the short name (I've read too many posts warning against that). Is there any other way this could have happened? I almost messed up my applications folder by moving it!

btw, thinking about my applications folder, I wanted to move it a position or two up the toolbar but slid too far to the right and the folder went 'poof' ... gone! I created a new folder and copied all applications only to find I ended up with 2 of everything. I deleted the duplicate app folder and am now wondering if that affected my Home folder.

PS. The short name on my home folder is the same as it's always been - I haven't changed it!

Cheers

If you right-click (control-click) on your home folder (in the side bar) and "Get Info", this will tell you where the folder is (there are other ways if that is no good). It could be invisible, I like a wee app called Kilometre to do anything with invisible files/folders. After that you can do with it what you will. I suspect that it is still where it has always been because things might not quite be right if it wasn't, especially if you reboot.

I changed my short name successfully and without any hitches.

Drag your Applications folder onto the sidebar, just make sure that you place it on the sidebar and not in one of the folders already on it.

Hi Swampy

I downloaded Kilometre and yes it showed my Home folder as being in the /users folder. I clicked on 'show in finder' and lo and behold.... it wasn't there! Invisible!

Question now is how do I make it visible? Kilometre doesn't appear to give me that option.
