Tech Too Pro 4 7 Months ago
Hi. 18 months ago I installed Tech Tool Pro 4 on my Mac Powerbook G4 and I also installed the edrive according to their instructions. The edrive has never worked properly. When I started from it I would get the dreaded blue screen and no complete star up. I always have to boot from the CD drive. Now my hard disk is very close to capacity and I want to remove the edrive. I have tried the utilities that come with the Mac software OS X.4 but it does not unmount the edrive. Please any suggestions on how I can unmount the edrive and give myself an extra 5 gig which I desperately need.

Thanks Lowededwookie, I've read the post you suggested and it would be excellent if I wanted to keep the edrive but I really want to remove the edrive altogether as I need the HD space and I don't mind using the Tech Tool Pro off the CD.

I take it Tech Tools has no option to stop using EDrive?

You could try to boot using the Install Discs that came with your machine and use Disk Utility to remove the partition then merge it all into one partition.

This might cause some issues as well so it might pay if you have access to another drive to copy files to an external drive and then perform the merge. It may still cause Tech Tools to spit the dummy.

Also try going into System Preferences/User Accounts/Login Items and turn off any helpers that associate themselves with TechTools. This might allow you to unmount the drive and perform a merge.

Hi Lowedwookie
As far as I can tell there is no option on Tech Tool Pro for one to stop using the edrive. I certainly looked for it.
I did try the utilities on the OSX.4 DVD and found the unmount icon. I high lighted the edrive and clicked on the unmount button but it does not work. I have tried that several times.

Thank you for your suggestion of going in and checking the login items and there is nothing there to do with Tech Tool Pro.

Perhaps I should also say, that using utilities manager on OSX.4 I have managed to delete the edrive files, but that leaves me with a 5 gig partition which is basically empty but because it is partitioned is still unavailable to me for general purposed.

I have backed all my files onto an external hard drive and I have thought of reformatting the internal hard drive and then using those files to restore the hard drive. The only problem with that is that I think it would restore the edrive which is what I don't want!
