"The Disk You Inserted was not readable...." 1 Month ago
Hi!
I'm on my macbook running 10.4.11, and came home today with a music disk i purchased from real groovy.. only problem is, when I insert the disk, I hear the computer reading it, then the message "The Disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" pops up. (Ejecting the disk is no problem) .
Curiously, this has only happened with this new disk (The Beatles Let it Be...Naked) and another CD, "The Beatles 1".
Now since I can't download The Beatles on itunes (darn it!), i was curious if there was any way to get around it (I am yet to try ripping it to a windows computer).
I'd be interested to know if anyone else has had a similar issue.
Thanks!
(PS... if it's of any significance, I had no problems with the disk in my surround sound system. so im almost certain it isn't due to scratches.. I also see no "Copy Control" message on the back of the CD case...)

Hi Jayne,

I googled and found this.... http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=50120
...which is kinda wierd...seems to suggest it is an issue for some....although usually copy protecting is at importing time isn't it? Haven't bought a copy protected disc in ages.

You may still want to have a go at cleaning it. Turn it over, poke your finger in the middle and "huff" (breath...I don't know what to call it) on the disc and wipe from the centre outwards in straight lines..never around the disc in circles.

I've even found on slightly old discs that a quick "huff" on them before I put them in suddenly makes them readable.

Weirdly, I've had a CD here that has refused to import for months because it is a bit scratched. I tried the other day and it worked.

Other things to try...another Mac. And even making sure nothing else is open on the Mac. I also tend to stop it playing tracks as it imports as (on dodgy discs) that seems to have an impact too.

Phil

I have a Buck 65 CD that my macbook wont read, but would read fine on an old mac mini. like wise the mac mini had an upgrade dvd supplied by apple that it wouldn't read.
You can also try burning an ISO with something like Toast or Nero on Windows, and mount the ISO, or just have someone else copy make a copy of it, and import from the copy.

Tried using the CD today in my mother's macbook pro ... and it worked absolutely fine! (and I was able to copy it into itunes then bluetooth it over to my computer)
However, I will try giving the disk a clean then try it in my macbook again. (It's nice to know that I can use the macbook pro if this happens again, in any case).
Thanks so much for your suggestions though!

I've seen this behaviour with normal CD's (no copy protection) in sight over the last couple of years.

It was only two or three CD's however, and I have a second machine which the disk did work on fine, so it wasn't a long term problem.

I do wonder what the reason is though...
