I am currently running a G5 OS X 10.4.11

I was 'thinking' about maybe buying the new iphone 'when/if' it arrives here.

But doing a quick read, it seems as if my iTunes and system is too old to intitiate the phone. Even with the current phones (3Gs)?

Is this true, would I have to update my system, which I have also found out is not possible.I can't go from my 'Tiger' to the latest (what ever it is now).

So does this mean I actually have to go out and buy a whole new computer just to get a phone running?

Thanks

You can't go to Snow Leopard but you should still be able to get hold of a copy of Leopard (www.amazon.com/Mac-OS-Version-10-5-6-Leo...JK/ref=pd_rhf_shvl_2) which should run the iPhone happily.

Yes,

Thank you for that.
It seems that I can only upgrade to Leopard. But this alone would set me back $400NZD, just so I can spend another $1300-1500 on the new phone. Hmmmmmmmmmmm nearly $2000. For that I could have another laptop to replace my crapped out Sony.
Interesting that in the States it will sell for $300USD(iphone G4) which is $450NZD. Interesting how things work out.
I wonder if anyone could tell me if the phones in the USA would work here? sorry, off topic, never mind. I have rellies in the States who could get me one over there.
Not going to pay 1300 dollars on a phone, that's just crazy.....
The only reason is to keep things all alike.
Tired of having different computers in the house, different music players, nothing compatible.
But after running Windows and Mac, the Mac is way more stable. But it comes at a huge cost. And at this present time in my life, there are more important things to spend my money on than just looking 'cool' with the lastest gear.

Maybe just answered my own question

Difficult question to answer.

They are sold locked in the US whereas here in New Zealand they are sold unlocked so it's actually better to buy it here in New Zealand.

The $300 price in the States is actually for a 2 year contract and is a similar price here on a similar plan. Mine for example cost me $700 for the 3G on an $80/mth plan over 2 years so I get the new phone for cheaper. The plans in the States are different than to here so we do pay more for our phones depending on which plan we go on or pay full price sans the plan which is possibly what you're talking about with the $1300 price tag. Buy the phone on a plan and you'll get the phone cheaper that's how all carriers work and the closest phones to the iPhone all cost around $1300 sans plan.
