number 1 for me is Pathfinder.. by far
I am on the Beta testing team for version 4 which is out inside the next month and it was is a ton better than the earlier version and I had no idea how they could improve the current version but boy have they ever..
Pathfinder does just about everything

Any of the free mainteneance apps like onyx

Neooffice is great and free

MacPAR deluxe for Rar extraction

Azureus for Torrents

Opera and Firefox for web browsing

Netnewswire for new feeds

VLC to play just about any video format

DivX codecs

Iclock is awesome

Menu meters

thats about all I use

Not too many 'must haves', but have plenty of useful apps for tweaks and tricks.

ArtRage - Great free painting app

Butler - Handy utility that allows access to stuff from your menu bar

Cache Out X - Now compatible with Tiger. Clean up and Speed up your Mac.

Chicken of the VNC - Remote control networked Macs

GMail Notifier.

Google Earth - (yep, I got a copy)

Konfabulator - still prefer to have my widgets visible

MenuStrip

TinkerTool

VLC

EDIT: Almost forgot, the single most useful App in my job:

CarbonCopyCloner

Launchbar for launching anything with a keystroke.

Tex-Edit Plus for writing and editing text and web pages.

NetNewsWire Pro for newsfeeds.

Pathfinder - Finder replacement.

iCal.

iView Media Pro for organising my photos.

OmniOutliner Professional for all kinds of things, especially keeping timesheets.

iClock with YType - clock and typing macros.

CopyPaste X - multiple clipboard bliss.

Keyboard Maestro - macros.

AppleScript

Oops - that's eleven and I haven't even mentioned Eudora Pro for email, MoneyWorks for my accounts, Snapz Pro X for screenshots, and several others which are majorly important.

Cheers,

Miraz

I thought I knew Mac programs until I read this thread! So many I didn't know...and on searching, so many I won't use I'd say....I'm simple and get confused when my Mac works differently too how I got it

Although Dragthing for me is a godsend.

PS...I also think our "must haves" are not necessairily 10 apps that we'd suggest first time Mac users download, which is what the guy is talking about in the link in the first post.

Eudora surprises me Miraz. I find it such an awful email client to use....so unituative. But, I know lots of people that use it and like it.

I love it and have used it for many years now. In fact, for 5 years I wrote a weekly Tip on using it - all available in the Tips Archive - http://mactips.info/tips

Eudora's very simple and straightforward and doesn't have all the clutter of the 'three-paned' apps like Entourage, Mail etc. There are heaps of power user preferences.

One of its biggest advantages is that it doesn't store the email in a corruption-prone proprietary database, but instead in plain text files - one per mailbox - that you can open with any text editor, if you so wish.

Cheers,

Miraz

We'd have to agree to disagree there....I'm mainly posting this replay as it looks like the quoting bug has resurfaced despite making no changes to the site at all.

Phil

Update: Nope...works for me...wonder why other quotes aren't working?
