Accidently destroyed my Leopard partition - help 1 Month, 4 Weeks ago
Macbook 2.4Ghz
Leopard

Installed Bootcamp 13GB. XP install seemed a bit crazy, when rebooted during installation, couldnt boot from any HDD partition, only CD/DVD.

Run Apple install disc, and it sees the 13GB partition but not the OS X partition.

Cannot reinstall Leopard, cannot delete partitions, cannot format drive using any GUI utilities on disc.

Booting with option key only gives option for DVD drive.

I havent lost any data, as everything is safely backed up.

How do I get my Mac to respond the the restore DVD wanting to wipe it?

Perhaps I need to format the drive from the terminal? If so, what are the commands I should use?

My Macbook is a paperweight at present.

From the install disc go to Disk Utility from one of the menus (sorry I forgot exactly which one it is).

You should see a drive with no partition details.

Click that and either perform a repair or setup a new partition.

It sounds like when doing the install you may have accidentally overwritten the Mac partition (very easy to do).

I will have to get back in front of the machine later, but I spent 2 hours last night trying every option, and all the options for partitioning and repair etc were greyed out.

I still couldnt do anything meaningful.

Then I booted from the XP CD and used it to delete the partition I had created (I think user error had me reformatting the 130 or so GB OSX partition thinking it was my 13GB Bootcamp partition - oops).

Once the partitions were deleted, OSX install disk now behaves as expected.

Problem solved.
