Migration assistant assistance assistants needed. 2 Weeks, 2 Days ago
Got new (to me) 24" intel iMac, got two old macs G4 tigers. I migration assisted them to be 'as one' when I first got the second one, but now the data on them isn't identical. So I want to migrate the data from two (with two users on each) onto one without ending up with massive double-ups. I tried a sync software once but ended up with a heap of files with nothing in them, which didn't make my day to say the least. Hence I haven't synced since and hence the variance in the data on the two older G4's. Once synced/migrated i'd like to do a better job of syncing in the future too.
I'm scared!

Well I wouldn't quite put it like that.....but what you're asking sounds complex. My first instinct is to suggest it can't be done. Have you Googled at all to see if there is help out there?

Phil

Have you had a look at ChronoSync, http://www.econtechnologies.com/site/Pages/ChronoSync/chrono_overview.html
Still probably doesn't achieve what you want. I agree with Phil.
You could sit down for hours and sort it out manually. Start from scratch and add what you want slowly.

Thanks swampy
It probably will do it, Sync (or is that sink!) my two 'old' macs, then migrate from one old to the new.
Have you used Chronosync?

It is only sink when you sync everything including the kitchen sink.
I tried the demo a couple of years ago but I found it easier to back up what I wanted when I wanted manually at that time.

I just read,
"Actually keeping all of your files synced and up to date is quite a pain. If you were talking about two Macs my standard suggestion is ChronoSync." on http://www.tuaw.com/2008/05/02/ask-tuaw-permissions-problems-html-email-quick-look-and-illus/ . The other day, I read a similar comment about ChronoSync. I don't think that there are that many apps out there that would do what we really want automatically.
