This is great! I can confirm I'm getting Freeview through my Eye TV hybrid too - everything except the channel guide. After reading the above additions to this thread, I thought I'd download the update and then connect the tiny little aerial that comes with the Eye TV to see what would happen, and I was amazed to find that it worked perfectly - the picture is incredible! This is a fantastic device, and no need to buy a Freeview decoder!

Good to hear that someone has actually done this with the EyeTV Hybrid and there is no need to purchase a freeview decoder.

I have had conflicting advice from Magnum Mac, Noel Leeming and Dick Smith over what Eyetv Hybrid is capable of and whether or not I needed to purchase a freeview decoder. One of the stores told me I would need to buy the eyetv plus and still have to purchase the freeview device and plug it into the eyetv plus. I could also plug Sky into the Plus version. Or so I was told.

When I read about it online and look through the specs it certainly seems possible but it is good to know someone has it working in practice.

It also means postponing a $1000 hdtv purchase.

It is great to have it working on EyeTV now. Does anybody know of a workaround for EPG by scripting an XML download from alternate source, conversion and storing in EyeTV?

Belinda, note that mode HarveyNorman/Noel Leeming/Dick Smith type store assistants have little knowledge provided and product training. You get some good individuals that have a passion for it and do their own homework but are few and far between. Also there is substantial change at the moment tied in with mixed messages, so in time it should straighten out. Eg if you asked an apple reseller last few weeks, the answer would have been no NZ DVB-T support for EyeTV.

You might want to have a look at the following forum for more info on Freeview in NZ
Freeview (DVB-T/DVB-S)

Can someone explain how the Eye TV actually physically interacts with the Mac. What I'd really like to know is, could I plug it into the USB port on my airport extreme and stream the signal to my mac, wherever it is in the house?

My understanding is that I'd plug the eye tv into a usb port and then have to plug in rabbit ears because I'm nowhere near an aerial connection. But I could put a splitter into the current aerial and have it next to my cable connection where my airport is.

Would this work?

Thanks.

downloaded the latest version of the software and hello freeview. I am getting a little bit of stutter running an intel iMac with 2GB Ram. The picture quality is excellent streets ahead of the previous version.
Anybody else getting a stutter?

The eyetv device has 2 be plugged into a mac to work. The hybrid device should work fine with an intel based mac (tell that to my stutter)

This is part of the email I got from Freeview this morning:

if you have a modern PCwith a fast USB-2 socket, you can plug in a digital TV USB adapter. You use the supplied software to tune in and watch FTA digital TV. This will be available within 5 to 6 months.

___

But it is available now in Wellington and Auckland. How about Christchurch?

Here in Chch, we have used the EyeTV Hybrid (US and connected to main roof aerial to get Digital signal. Also in home office using the little antenna on window sill, able to get signal with an older EyeTV410 (Firewire) connected to Power Mac. Was surprised that the little antenna worked as it is facing north rather than the Cashmere hills (I am guessing that is where signal originates). Then again with the flat terrain of Chch you are pretty much line of sight, just on opposite side of the house.
Was not sure that you could remotely connect to the device, however you can stream your recordings over Wifi with EyeTV 3 - the computer recording will need to connect to antenna somewhere.
