noisy keyboard normal? 1 Month, 1 Week ago
G'day,

I'm a recent Mac convert and lovin it. I just got a new White MacBook and on the left side of the keyboard going into the centre
Q-R, A-F & Z-V when I hit the keys I get a rattly/clicky plastic rattle sound that isn't there when I use the T-P, G-L & B-M keys.

Is this normal?

I'm not talking loose or anything, just annoying and cheap sounding on half the keyboard. Can I tighten something up?

Cheers

Motorwayne

I got my macbook a couple of days ago and I am having exactly the same problem. The qweasdzx keys are making some sort of rattle sound. I have experimented with some other macbooks but they didn't seem to have the problem.

Did you find some sort of solution for this or does apple replace these keyboards? I thought about opening it, but i'm afraid the warranty gets void.

Nope, no replies actually.

I went into Ubertec and they said bring it in.

So I guess I'll bring it in.

Ah ok...

I went to a mac store today and they took a look at it and opened it, they said the keyboard was fine there was a little space between the top layer and bottom layer of the keyboard. While the technical people were taking my laptop apart I was looking around in the show room and they had 4 normal macbooks, and three of them made the same sound so I guess it's pretty common. They said they could order a new top-case if I really wanted but they couldn't garentee (lol, my english is a bit poor) that that one would not make the same sound so I just left it the way it is since I need my macbook for some projects I am working on and just live with it.

Pls let me know if you had some luck...

Oh darn..sounds like the clacking is built right in. Thats not good. Might have to pull it apart and fix it myself. Might just need a bit of padding..sounds like a minor thing to do.

I'll let you know when I have had a go.

That idea crossed my mind too, I even found a good movie on how to take a mac book apart. I believe this even keeps your warranty but I'm not sure though.

Here's the link if you are interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDq5_rmhWPg

Good luck Let me know how it worked out perhaps I'll give it a go too, first I need to get myself a suitable screwdriver.
