External iSight issues 1 Week, 4 Days ago
Hi all
My external iSight has suddenly stopped working on my G5. It had been working fine, I've had Leopard since December and no worries there. All of a sudden when I try and turn it on there is no green light and no response in Skype, iChat, Photo Booth etc. I've tested both my Firewire ports with another piece of kit (external hard drive)and both ports seem to be working fine. Now the really strange thing is the camera works fine on other peoples iMacs and MacBooks!!
So does anybody have any good ideas before I have to take the whole iMac in for testing!?! I've tried removing and re-installing Skype but to no avail...
Thanks for any help you can give.

Might be going over something you have tried.

Have you just tried the iSight camera without any other devices plugged into the firewire ports?
I had similar problems with my iMac G5 iSight & Firewire drives. The problem is the iSight draws heaps of power which can affect the firewire ports functionality. Causing the iSight and/or firewire drives to do strange things.

Have you tried reseting the PRAM and firewire ports.

Thanks for the info.

I've tried as you suggested but unfortunately still no luck.

Did this work to solve your problem?

The only thing that worked for me, was just plugging the iSight in by itself. No other devices connected to the other firewire ports.
