Time machine 5 Days, 17 Hours ago
Yesterday when I plugged my maxtor 80g external harddrive into my updated imac, it asked if I wanted to use it for back up with time machine, If I choose to erase and use it with time machine can I still use it on my older g4 ibook as well which is running tiger to store documents and photos?

Yes, but I believe that the approach to take is to partition it. In other words, split the drive into two using the Disk Utility app (there's a partition option when you erase) and then choose one partition for Time Machine and use the other as a standard storage space.
