Dear admin, with all his earthly wisdom!

My earthly wisdom was to let the experts answer this one If you do like the site and want to say thanks, you can purchase Final Cut from the Apple store via the link in my signature. It costs you nothing extra, but I get commission to support running the site.

Cheers, Phil

Go for Final Cut Express. In the meantime have a go at using iMovie 08 if you have it. It has it limits and I miss the timeline for editing but okay for a quick clip and trim. FCE is way ahead of some of the Windows apps e.g Pinnacle but you do get a lot for your money. Did you know that many of the professionals use Mac's and Final Cut for movie production? Remember the animated movie Happy Feet? All done on Mac's.

Glad to have helped. Enjoy movie making it is great fun.

iMovie is a great way to learn the processes involved in getting video from tape to your machine.

As Cassiachette says Final Cut is definitely the app to get for the long run but that doesn't mean you should stop using iMovie either.

iMovie was designed for the rough cut edit and it is the perfect tool for that more so than Final Cut as Final Cut is designed for more intensive editing (we're talking frame by frame edits, layering, and special effects here).

Get the video into iMovie, remove the stuff you don't want, keep the stuff you do want, and then export to Final Cut (remember to flatten the audio otherwise audio isn't transported into Final Cut) and then make your final cut (not called that for no reason ).

Final Cut Express is a great animation tool as well. I've done some stop go animation using nothing but a still camera and Final Cut Express. The fact you can edit frame by frame is so handy.

Have fun and don't forget we can help out where we can.

Well this has been the most helpful forum ive been on in a looong time. Not only did i find the perfect video camera, it stopped me from buying my original choice at twice the price so even with software (that is going to be totally worth it) im paying less than just a sdcc camera!
Thanks so much guys! Once again the noob is rescued by the helpful
