Hi all,

Dare I say it, but there seems to be a wealth of PC-based programs that will record your screen and voice and output to QuickTime or Flash. Any suggestions on a Mac equivalent?

Last time I used Snapz Pro (admittedly a while ago) is was very imporant to have a fast computer. I'd like a bit more versatility with what I use, so does anyone have suggestions? I'm wanting to record web activity (logging into a site etc) including narration saying what to do.

Phil

Well I'm answering my own post here (yes, that's sad I know) but I downloaded a few from version Tracker and gave Snapz another go....I was impressed with Snapz Pro and the fact I've got a grunty machine at work helped.

Wish it would export straight to Flash though as well as QT.

Anyone elses ideas/opinions still welcome.

I would have said Snapz Pro, but that's simply because I'm not aware of anything else that comes close...

Is Flash an open standard? From watching discussions about Ambrosia's Wiretap utility and MP3, I get the impression that Ambrosia tends to be responsible about what export formats they support. If Flash is an open standard, you could always suggest it as an future feature to add to Snapz Pro.

Snapz Pro has made a lot of improvements over time. I use it frequently, but for static screenshots rather than movies. At one point when I was doing some movies I seem to remember I took to recording the voiceover separately as it wasn't so hard on the computer.

Cheers,

Miraz

Why not just use the built in screen shot feature in Mac OS X 10.3 for static screen shots? :?

Ummm...because I said I didn't want static shots. In fact, I said....
I'm wanting to record web activity (logging into a site etc) including narration saying what to do.
Or more specifically, an animation/movie showing the whole process. And no, I'm not going to stitch a lot of images together....there's too many of them that I have to do.

I believe Timbuktu Pro will let you do this re: video though I'm not sure about audio, and possibly also netOctopus can do this. Can't remember if Apple Remote Desktop also had this facility.

I don't get you? I'm wanting to capture my Macs screen doing a number of web things, with me talking through it, which I then intend to put on the web and a CD we might develop as a guide...a "How to".
Like this.... http://movielibrary.lynda.com/html/modmow.asp?s=14&m=1435
(Click on the free movie at the bottom)

I thought the things you mention are for viewing remote machines? Didn't want to do this.

Hi all,

This is a very old thread but I remembered it when I came across this today....it is very very cool and I hope that maybe it'll stay free or cheap. Check out the demo video. Note also you can change from having the 'sun' hotspot to either using a menu icon or a keystroke combo. Produces SWF screen captures with audio......
