The NZMac.com Forums are moderated forums. As clearly indicated, each forum section has one or more moderators, who monitor postings placed within that forum area. Whilst postings are not monitored to the extent of requiring approval before appearing in a forum, it is the role of the moderator to ensure that the postings fall within what they consider appropriate use of this bulletin board system.
It is the responsibility of the users of the forum to ensure that their postings are appropriate to the environment in which they are posting and that their comments meet the standards indicated in this document and were also indicated upon user registration.
Given that the nature of the site is one in which New Zealand Macintosh computer users can post information related to the use of computers, we would appreciate if the postings were Mac-related or at least relevant to the generic concept of a "New Zealand Macintosh user".
We do not agree with the posting of information and/or discussions concerning users wanting to or having managed to illegally obtain, duplicate and/or distribute software, CDs or multimedia.
The NZMac.com forums are intended to be a supportive and encouraging environment for all....an environment in which we welcome help, advice and opinion. In order to develop widespread discussion, the NZMac.com website also offers other sites the ability to have topics from these forums appear on their pages (known as 'forum feeds'), although only publicly viewable information (posting topics, author name, etc) can be obtained and displayed by these sites.
We ask that all users who quote small segments of articles from other sites include a direct URL to the article on the original site where it was displayed. If the complete copy of a web article is posted into the forum, it will generally be removed. In the case of printed material, users must abide by the appropriate copyright regulations that relate to the publication where the article came from, and take responsibility for any infringement of these laws that they carry out.
Acknowledging the source of comments and opinion means there is no confusion as to where the comment originated. Whilst we appreciate that the comments that appear in this forum are readily visible to the general public, we ask that anyone who wishes to making use of forum comments, have the courtesy to contact us (or the author of the comment) for approval.
Regards,
Philip Roy
We suggest you...
- Take the time to post comments that are clear to the reader to try to avoid confusion or misinterpretation by others.
- Respect other people's opinions. Don't forget that the electronic written word can offend (intentionally and unintentionally) just as much as the spoken word can.
- Be forgiving enough to realise that sometimes the intention was never to offend and that words and phrases can be misinterpreted.
- Be respectful of your own and other people's right to privacy. Do not publish personal contact details or the details of others, nor demand that they do so.
- Keep it clean.
Profanity and obscenities will not be tolerated.

The Community Users section is a moderated enhancement to the NZMac.com site that will see users provided with more functionality to help develop a stronger sense of community on the site. Like all aspects of the site, the Community section will be under constant development. Of note, it is important to emphasise that the forum and community section are not currently completely integrated.
What does this mean? Well unfortunately it will mean that regular registered users will have two areas where their profile information is listed...in the forum profile and in the community section also. This is for technical reasons as the two components do not currently fully integrate. It is hoped that ultimately the integration will improve.
As with the forum, the Community section of NZMac.com is moderated. Depending on the nature of the material, some data entered by users into their profile will require approval before appearing. It is the role of the moderator to ensure that the information falls within what they consider appropriate use of the community system, as discussed below.
It is the responsibility of the users to ensure that the information they list and images they upload are appropriate to the environment in which they are publishing to. We would appreciate if images and profile information were relevant to the generic concept of a "New Zealand Macintosh user".
The opportunity to upload a small image representing you (hereafter referred to as 'avatars') is not an opportunity to post an image of your website, advertising or requests donations (PayPal logos etc). Images do not have to be uploaded but if you choose to upload an image, it should be of you and/or not an image likely to cause offence to users of the site.
Whilst you are welcome to list your personal or commercial website in your profile, it should remain inline with the concept of providing users of the site with information about you and should not be consider an opportunity in which to gain free promotion of your site/s, advertise for free or attempt to generate large hits to your site through inappropriate practices.
As a registered user of the site, you have already agreed not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-oriented or any other material that may violate any applicable laws. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned (and your service provider being informed).
Please treat all information you provide in your community profile as public. As the Community section is moderated, any inappropriate practice may result in your user profile being banned.
Helpful Information
Why does my avatar not appear immediately?
Avatars require site approval. It is likely that only offensive images will be declined. We are not attempting to enforce that users upload an image of themselves...it can be an alternative image.
Why are there so few details on my profile?
Tabs such as "About Me", "Articles" and "User Map" only appear in your profile when you have entered something into them. In the case of "Articles", the tab is always visible but only lists stories that have been published on the site under your name.
Why is the text area that I can enter details "About Me" in to so limited?
This had to be done due to issues with using an inbuilt web-based editor that would have given users access to too much of the site. However although rudimentary, the text box will accept HTML coding, so you can include links to websites, bold/italic characters etc.
How do I enter my location details into the User Map?
The user map allows you to show where you are located in the world. You enter your Latitude and Longitude values (use numbers ONLY-no letters AT ALL) into the User Map area of your profile and then a pointer will appear on the site community map with your name and avatar visible when users click on your pointer. As an example, Palmerston North is located at Latitude = -40.19 and Longitude = 175.37. Check out this page if you need help....http://www.mapsofworld.com/lat_long/newzealand-lat-long.html
Woah! That's not where my place is located! What's up?
It appears that Google map information isn't as accurate as we hoped, as the following FAQ state...
http://local.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=22040&topic=1495
http://local.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=26083&topic=1495
We can but hope that Google updates their inaccurate information.
Why don't I show up in the list of NZMac User Profiles?
NZMac.com has a lot of users and all registered users are listed via the site forum. To make the community list more relevant, you will need to have logged into the site within the last 6 months *and* have at least one of the following pieces of information in your profile...Avatar/About Me/User Map...for people to then be able to view your profile.
NZMac.com reserves the right to modify these rules at any time without notice.
