iWork 8. 9 Months, 1 Week ago
As the iWork 8 trial will take over 27hours to download on my connection would some kind member please answer a couple of question about Numbers.

I need the option to Freeze rows / columns / titles and the option to Insert note / comment. If not available I'll stay with iWork 6 and NeoOffice.
Many thanks.

iWork arrived at my door 2 minutes ago...my machine is busy doing something else sorry so can't install at the moment.

Found an electronic PDF of user guide on the CD, so for the 2nd question....

Adding Comments
Use comments to record information about table cells.
Here are ways to work with comments:
* To add a comment to a cell, select the cell and click Comment in the toolbar. Type in the comment box.
* To move a comment, drag it.
* To hide all comments, choose View > Hide Comments. A yellow marker appears in any table cell containing a comment.
* To hide one comment, click the "?‚Äö?ᬮ??" in the upper right of the comment box.
* To show a hidden comment, click its marker.
* To show all comments, choose View >Show Comments.
* To delete a comment, click the X in the upper right of the comment box.
* To include comments when you print a sheet, show any comments you want to print, and then choose File > Print Sheet.

Can't see lock or freeze, but I'm sure it is there. Will keep looking.

Phil

To lock objects:
Hold down the Command (or Shift) key as you select the objects you want to lock.
Choose Arrange > Lock.

I couldn't see if this included locking columns or rows though?

Many Thanks guys.
After checking through 9 pages of posts about Numbers in Apple's Discussion Forums The needed freeze titles that even Apple Works 6 has is not available in Numbers.

The nearest seems to be to use the header option both horizontally and vertically which is a second rate hack at best.
Sad.

I'm going to play with it tonight as I just downloaded it.

I'm definately going to purchase it because I love the iWork package but I think it will have to wai until after I get iLife because I need the updated iWeb more.

OK, managed to download the trial...

Numbers is certainly different, I don't normally insert pics in spreadsheets never mind having several options to resize & frame them

The spinning beach ball turned up but as one can undo every change made since opening Numbers ~ Saving the pages fairly often sorts out that problem.
The borders take the place of freeze rows etc for most users. Still plenty of complaints that it's not Excel Plus but what it does do it does reasonably well for version 1.

Obviously some things will change with the first update but many of the complaints are unwarranted for a SS for the 'Rest of us'

If you take off your 'excel' hat before using Numbers as one has to take off a 'Word' hat before using Pages and play with it, it can actually make Spreadsheets fun.

I purchased it this week and I have to say I'm really loving it. Numbers now makes iWork the only office package I'll use from now on.

One thing that kind of through me was Sheets. Being so used to working on tabs at first the Sheet view was a bit weird but now it just makes sense especially due to the fact that you can have multiple tables on a sheet that just makes it easy to see where you are.

Still playing with it but I did notice that Keynote doesn't support interactive PowerPoint files, it just shows them as individual screens.

When first open PPS shows as single pages in Keynote but hitting play on the tool bar usually gets things going At least it does with the couple I have in the mailbox.

Nah it doesn't work. This powerpoint file is interactive, i.e. you need to click links within the document. However, the mouse doesn't show up therefore you can't click.
