Excel spreadsheet in Numbers. 7 Months, 1 Week ago
Hi.
Having problems getting an Excel spreadsheet to show some fields in iWork Numbers. Specifically fields showing days of the week convert to numbers 1 - 7 for Monday to Sunday?
Can anyone please tell me how to keep the days showing?
Thanks.

Select the column and then select the format cell options for date. It looks like this:

Then select the format of the date you need.

Oh yeah and for some reason Numbers sucks with '07 date format. Use the 2007 for the year because it seems Numbers has the Year 2000 Bug. 00 will make it 0000. Oppies.

Thanks for that. Much appreciated. I'm new to the Mac world but they leave PCs in their dust!
From what I've read, iWork Numbers is supposed to accept Excel spreadsheets, but it doesn't seem to on this occasion.
Wondering if I should go with iWork or Office for Mac. Any opinion?
Thanks.

Hi Wookie,
Can't find a date bug here. Use dashes or strokes between day-month-year
I see you are using US dates but it works fine for others over there too.

Hi ChrisD
If you really need a monolithic spreadsheet stay with an excel clone, Numbers has 80% of excels formatting etc but if you need that 20% NeoOffice, the Mac version of Open Office works fine.

Personally I've not used NeoOffice Spreadsheet since installing Numbers as I no longer need it.

Actually I'm not, I took a screenshot from a video from the Apple site because I didn't have my Mac on me.

Thanks Ashka.
I only use Excel for one application and that one uses the days of the week so I guess NeoOffice is for me.
Will have a look at it tonight.

I use Excel for numerous applications but thought I would give numbers a go. Found that Excel imports okay except for a problem with dates. Easily fixed. Just highlight the date cells and use Inspector to set the date format, even though it may be the same already. Numbers puts a little blue triangle in the top right hand corner of the cell so you know that there is a compatibilty issue. Numbers does not do everything that Excel does. It does do most though.

For help download the PDF manual from Apple support. Heaps of really good instructions and easier to understand than the Help files.

Sorry to be a bit late with this.
The blue triangles are to show you that the formula relates to an empty cell.
You can switch it off:
Numbers > Preferences > General > untick Show warnings when formulas reference empty cells.
Bye bye blue triangles.
