Hi there,

I am new to Final Cut Pro and LiveType. I have created some animated text with LiveType and have imported it into FCP. It looks fine until I render it. For some reason the colors go strange and the quality is horrible. Also, even though I have made sure the number of vertical pixels and the number of horizontal pixels is the same in both programs, I get thin black bars down each side.

My very first thought would be NTSC/PAL. Make sure you are set to PAL format and not NTSC. If you have one of the earlier versions of livetype it may not support PAL, but the version i got with FCP HD was very specific in which things were which.
Also see if your fcp will import the livetype file as opposed to the rendered movie.

Yeah i just import the .ipr files (livetype projects) into FCP HD and it works really well, even on my 1G eMac with 768MB RAM.
