Hi, With USB3 now available on the new Macs can I still use my USB2 units when I buy a new Mac?

Yes. USB 3 ports on computers are compatible with USB 2 peripherals. Just having a USB 3 port won't make existing USB 2 peripherals any faster. Both the computer and peripheral must support USB 3 to be able to use the SuperSpeed mode (theoretically up to 5 Gbps, roughly ten times faster than the best theoretical speed of USB 2).

USB 3 peripherals are also compatible with USB 2 ports on computers, but they will be limited to USB 2 speeds.

Basically you can plug in any device and it will work, the different is the transfer speed only

USB 2 device work on any USB 2 or USB 3 port on Mac
USB 3 device work on USB 2 at slower speed
