Stuff site problems 5 Months, 1 Week ago

Just got a new MacBookPro, with Snow Leopard (I hope the next OS is called Tabby) and Safari 4.0.3 and suddenly cannot load the Stuff.co.nz Web site. Every other Web site (so far) is just fine. Does anyone have any ideas? On my old (old!) Macbook I was using Firefox because Safari started quitting on me too frequently, so I am now a bit out of touch with Safari's quirks and quibbles. Just moved to Ireland, so trying to access Stuff from here...

Do you have any extra things installed in Safari? Plugins that change the way the search box works or anything like that?

Clearing the Cookies didn't work, but hitting the reset Safari sort of did. It took at least 3 minutes, but Stuff.co.nz
did open. Hoping to try to contact the Webmaster there, I tried to navigate to 'contact us'. No luck. No page. No luck reloading the home page of the site. Hit reset again, 3-4 minutes later, it comes up -- well, partially up. I guess that means, what, spending a few hours going through each item on the 'reset' check list one by one. That said, even this "success" is untenable since the page takes forever to load. Does anyone have contact at Stuff who might know if other users are having this problem? All other Web site so far have been fine; my iPod Touch, on the same WiFi network, navigates to Stuff though somewhat slower than other sites, so could it be my ISP? (Weird, though, since my old iBook worked fine.) Appreciate the help so far.

Sorry, I forgot to say, but I don't have the issue you've described with stuff at all. What happens if you use Firefox? Does anything come up from the activity window that suggests and issue?

I haven't installed Firefox yet, but will try. Nothing comes up to indicate what the problem is. I sent a bug report to Apple, ahem. Got address for Stuff on my iPod Touch, wrote to them. I've found Stuff problematic in the past. When they upgraded last year, I had to install a Firefox add-on to block java script. Just to try something new, I Googled stuff southland times ... got the link and it loaded. It piggybacks on the stuff url at www.stuff.co.nz/southland-times/ -- tried to navigate from that page back to stuff.co.nz No luck. Weirder and weirder. I appreciate this is getting pretty boring. Apologies.

Believe it or not, I heard back from Stuff. It was them, not me, they ran out of bandwidth for users outside NZ. (It's working fine now). In my case, it happened to happen right when I got my new machine. Here's what they said:
Hello,
Thanks for your note and I'm sorry to hear you've had problems accessing
Stuff.co.nz.
There has been a big increase in demand for the Stuff site over recent days,
partly due to big breaking news, and our international bandwidth has hit its
ceiling. This means some people have been unable to get into Stuff from
outside New Zealand. We are urgently increasing this bandwidth, although
this might take a day or two to kick in.
I realise this must be frustrating but please keep trying. Don't hesitate to
get back in touch if you have ongoing problems.

You think the first thing they would put in place would be some form of strategy to indicate to viewers that bandwidth has been exceeded...rather than a blank page. But good on them for replying and explaining the situation.
