TOPIC: Synchronising files between Mac and Windows
#20324
Synchronising files between Mac and Windows 5 Months, 1 Week ago
Hi I have what I imagine is a fairly common requirement for people on a windows network using a Mac. I want to be able to synchronise (or synchronize !) some files currently sitting on our windows file server so that when I am away from the office there is an up to date copy of the file on my MacBook.

I have had a brief search on the www, but I cant see how to do it. Surely it is not too hard. It would be something like the equivalent of marking a windows folder as 'Make files available offline' which is how windows the same job.

Ideas?

Create an Automator application that when you run will automatically copy everything from the network drive to a folder of your choosing and also overwriting the contents.

Create another one that does the reverse back to the server.

Does it have to be on the server? You could store it on dropbox and then every time you are on the net, it would sync up any changes you've made....and it would be accessible from everywhere...including your iPhone (www.getdropbox.com)

I like the idea of drop box, but not for this requirement.

I just thought that there would be a way of some documents/folders on my network share at work being able to be copied for use when I am not in the office.

Will have to keep looking I guess. I was thinking that I could use the Entourage Document Connection to do this, but it doesnt seem to be quite what I am looking for
