Sorry Phil, not sure why but every time I login with Facebook it imports my status update despite me having unticked all the boxes.

Sorry for the rude postings this may have added.

When Valve announced they will be bringing Steam to the Mac there was a cry of joy not heard since the Israelites were led out of captivity from Egypt. Not only is Steam now available they've done what companies like EA haven't... gone native. When EA announced they will be releasing their Mac titles at the same time or at a similar time as their PC versions there was a lot of speculation as to how this would be achieved. When they announced that they would be .....

What do you get when you cross World Of Warcraft with spaceships? Well as luck would have it Eve Online is the answer. I have to admit that when it comes to MMPORG games I'm A): a novice B): not really interested. It all boils down to the fact that most MMPORGs are based around warriors and elves and wizards and personally that gets real old real quick for me. I had seen the ads for Eve Online for some time and even created an account only to find out their Mac suppo .....

There is a change coming in software and Apple is proving to be right at the forefront of it. Software is going from the 'do it all' to the 'do it well' regime where features aren't necessarily being added but what is there is being refined and tweaked and optimised to make a system that is flawless or as close as it's ever going to be. Apple has done exactly that with Snow Leopard. There are new features but 95% of Snow Leopard you will not see because it's all hidden in .....

I'm not real big on plug-ins mainly because I like the right tool for the right job and I've rarely found a plug-in that does exactly what I want. Then a couple of days ago I was visiting NZMac.com and in the MacNN feed at the bottom of the screen I saw something that intrigued me... "Boris Continuum Cartoon Look package uses BCC filters". "Cartoon Look eh?" I said so I checked it out, the spiel was saying exactly what I was looking for and so I downloaded the demo and th .....

One of the coolest features of Mobile Me is one of the trickiest to get up and running. This is not because Apple dropped the ball on this but because everyone's ADSL modems are not set up by default to run it. The purpose of this document is to explain how to setup your ADSL modem in order to get Back to My Mac working. Most of the information relates to a Dynalink modem, but there are also screen shots of the Linksys modem (untested) to give you an understanding of the generic .....

Sunday, 10 October 2010 The end of paper is nigh
Paper... we love it and we loathe it. It still exists because we've built a dependance on it despite the fact that we have technology that renders it null and void. We have document formats like ePUB and PDF that allow us to carry around books wherever we go. We have the ability to create these forms of documents so easily especially with the latest update to iWork. We read on the internet and we read e-mails. Our communication has gone from slow pieces of paper being delivered by people on p .....
Saturday, 03 April 2010 So endeth March Apple Madness
This month has been so full on with Apple related stuff for me and yet aside from a copy of Filemaker Pro I'm still waiting on I have no Apple products in my hot little hands. My March Apple Madness actually started around January/February when Polly from Kinetics (Filemaker's PR firm in Australasia) contacted me about them flying me over to Sydney to talk about how I use Bento, Filemaker's brilliant consumer database application. I had a problem because I've never left New Zealand bef .....
Wednesday, 17 February 2010 Why Phil got my post wrong
Phil's post in reply to mine was incredibly funny (http://www.nzmac.com/community-blog/why-darryn-got-the-tech-pundits-wrong.html). In it he accuses me of not reading what the pundits wrote (which I did) and then goes into a tirade that proves he never really read my post but skimmed through it and had a go at me for what he perceived I had written. My post was purely quashing the negative com .....
Sunday, 07 February 2010 Why the tech pundits got it wrong
In ten years of Microsoft trying to push the tablet as a computer the tablet just hasn't ever taken off. The one thing the naysayers of the iPad have never asked themselves is why has tablet computing failed up until this point? The answer is simple... they're too under powered to do the work people think they should be doing. Essentially what is happening is people expect to work on a tablet the same way they do on a laptop but the specs of a tablet and the ridiculous price of these t .....
Friday, 01 January 2010 The year of the document
In my last post I surmised what the probable specs of an Apple tablet would be while also showing why Apple has a great shot at making it all work. But a tablet is only going to be as good as the software that runs on it and will only work if people see a use for it so this post is going to look at what the Apple tablet will do if it exists at all. There are two rumours about .....
