Mac Friendly Companies

Rating - Good

Pros
Their software settings page mentions Mac users directly and indicates that they recommend Internet Explorer 5. They also provide a link to download it from Microsoft, as well as including advice for those not wanting to use any of the supported browsers (this is a nice touch, as it acknowledges those that do want to stray from the supported software, while still showing that ANZ does not recommend that software). Reports are that Safari appears to work.

One of the Help Desk supervisors is reported to be a Mac user so there's a chance if you ask, you might get to chat with him if you have any issues. ANZ Bank is Internet Explorer focused but Jaguar or Panther's version of Safari will work although there are some rendering issues of a minor nature.

They have a page on internet security, which is also helpful to all users. Although it does refer to your "PC", in this instance, it can be seen in its most generic sense as any personal computer.

Update:

Comment by Eric Watson - They are Mac Friendly but don't actively promote it. When Safari first came out it couldn't handle the encryption but they worked on it and everything now works perfectly. Their site is very good and even provides for sending transfers overseas etc.

Comment from James: Web site works perfectly under Safari/Firefox. Internet Banking works perfectly (apart from some minor rendering issues that has no impact on your ability to do anything). Happy customer for over 2 years.

Cons
It's surprising how you still have to hunt on web sites to find the answer to the question "Will this system work for me?". Despite having an online demo, are we reassured this is the same experience you have when logging in for real? I know this seems a silly question (because the answer is probably "Yes") but what's wrong with explicitly stating it?

Whilst acknowledging the Mac market, it is still a bank that pushes PC-based solutions or doesn't word all sections generically enough. The page that mentions Mac starts by simply talking about what your computer needs...and 2 of the 3 browsers don't exist on the Mac. Even just a simple thing as wording it better would be a good change, such as "Internet Explorer 6.0 (5.1 on a Mac).

Comments
At the moment you are able to use a Mac with the system, but ANZ Australia controls the system and they seem to only do upgrades based on PC requirements...any Mac improvements sometimes have the feeling of being coincidental to that work, rather than actual support directly for Mac users.

Rating: Good (Although, it should be said that the ANZ do a lot to acknowledge Mac users, so they are congratulated for that. With just a little more work and a little more help for all users, they will certainly move to an 'Excellent' rating, if not higher)
