Calling all Mac Heads!!

After years of hearing 'how amazing and intuitive' Macs are I have recently upgraded from my trusty old PC to a MacBook Pro.

I have transfered my 'My Music' folder from the PC onto my EX HD. When I try to copy this folder onto my mac HD after a few seconds of work I get error message 39 'cannot proceed because there is a problem with song ....'

Instead of skipping this particular song the whole copying process just stops. When this sort of thing happens with PC's there is an option to skip this file and then yes to all files of this type. I have started deleting the song in question and moving ahead, however it happens all the time and because there is around 80GB of music to transfer it would take a lifetime to stop and identify each problematic song.

I'm thinking it may be a setting in the computer that needs adjusting to allow the process to continue.

Any help would be rad, cheers

I don't know of a way to skip certain files when copying but here are two suggestions.

Rather than copying onto your Mac HD, get iTunes to import the files. Unlike Finder (if you're very new to OS X that's the main "OS" part, where you find all your files) it may be able to skip files it can't understand for some reason.

Run Disk Utility and tell it to "Repair Disk Permissions", it may be that some part of the directory structure is bung and that program can fix it.
