That's excellent Phil, thanks. Got some tutors at work looking for something like this. They were wanting to use Smartboard capture software which I was a bit dubious of as it is designed to go with SmartBoards (Interactive whiteboards).

The fact that this is free fits their criteria perfectly.

Ha! I'm still an Adobe Captivate fan on the PC but this is cool...I'm hoping maybe they bring out a free and then maybe a paid version that allows you to remove branding?

Thanks, but no...this is a very old and long thread. In the end I went with Snapz Pro, but these days you should also keep an eye on Skitch....

Hi all,

Just online in a presentation with Adobe about Captivate 3 (a PC only product) that is superb. I asked if there would ever be a Mac version and the presenter said it would happen if the demand was there. She suggested submitting the request to this page...

www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

I mentioned I had, so she said I should encourage others to submit also....so even if you're not interested, it would be great if you submitted a request for a Mac version of Adobe Captivate

Thanks, Phil

Hi there,

Thought I would update this thread with a couple of apps that have caught my eye recently.....

www.synium.de/products/screenium/index.html
This one picks up mouse movements and clicks and has a neat effect for showing where you have clicked

www.varasoftware.com/products/screenflow/
Looks quite upmarket and worked well in a test. Has very powerful editing...very powerful.

Cheers,

Phil

I know this thread is pretty old but I wanted to add my two cents worth.

iShowU (https://www.shinywhitebox.com/home/home.html) has done me proud a number of times and I just registered it today. For $30(NZ) it's great value for money and best of all it's developed by a New Zealander. Buy Kiwi made and blah blah blah.

It captures video and audio either from system, microphone, or both. It has an interesting feature called Follow Mouse which will move the capture according to where you move the mouse but this can be a blessing as well as a curse. The capture area is easily set.

It can save in a number of formats but it doesn't seem like it will save to Flash so some conversion looks like it will need to be done, although it does save to YouTube formatted MP4.

All in all a worthy application.

I've mentioned Adobe Captivate in this thread before. It's PC only and I hate to say it, it's a superb product I use weekly. It ties in a lot with what we are using elsewhere at the University. Well today Adobe published a link to a new podcast about Captivate and suggested Mac users might like to check out the interviews.

captivating.podbean.com/

If you look at about 2.50 in to episode 7 (not sure why all episodes aren't there) you'll see the chap from Adobe give the best hint there will be a Mac version. Having now met a lot of Adobe staff, I'd take his comment as a serious hint there will be a Mac version...their 'hints' haven't let me down yet!

Cheers,

Phil

Rats...Adobe Captivate 4 came out and there is no Mac version. Still getting it at work though.

BTW, very cool new screen capture tool...that splits screen shots into Photoshop layers....

MattD, I removed your post as it seemed to be a collection of software...some of which were already listed in this thread. Please take time to read what others have said before posting.
