ImageThere will be a number of things happening in the next few hours as Apple readies the launch of the iPhone 3G. The .Mac system is currently down and being migrated to the new MobileMe service. At the same time, iTunes 7.7 has just been released and features the ability to download free and purchased applications for your iPod Touch, iPhone and iPhone 3G when you have version 2.0 of the software (or later) installed.

The new version of iTunes should be available from your software update system....

Once installed, you should find a new option to display purchased applications in the iTunes preferences system...

Information provided by Apple on the iTunes download states....

Use iTunes 7.7 to sync music, video, and more with iPhone 3G, and download applications from the iTunes Store exclusively designed for iPhone and iPod touch with software version 2.0 or later. Also use the new Remote application for iPhone or iPod touch to control iTunes playback from anywhere in your home — a free download from the App Store.
