ImageIn what must truly be a coup for Apple Computer, the band U2 is now appearing in an iPod advert on their site and in an extended version, available for viewing via the iTunes player, which has the ability to play video clips within the application.

Of note is that while the advert is in the traditional colourful style of Apple's iPod adverts, this is  the first ad that has used a recognisable performer not only for the soundtrack of the ad, but also to have them appear in the actual advert itself.

You can link to the iTunes-based advert or view the commercial from this link...

Note that New Zealand customers cannot purchase the music or make use of the iTunes music store to download music.

This comes on top of news that Apple now has an 82 per cent market share with the iPod in US retail markets....

Update - CNet suggest a 92% market share for the iPod in the 'hard drive based' players market
