Mac OS X v10.4 "Tiger" will go on sale Friday, April 29, at 6:00 p.m. during special events at Apple Authorised Resellers.

Tiger has more than 200 new features and innovations including Spotlight, a revolutionary desktop search technology that lets users instantly find anything stored on their Mac, including documents, emails, contacts and images; and Dashboard, a new way to quickly access important information like weather forecasts and stock quotes, using a dazzling new class of applications called widgets.

Not the most exciting of stories, the release of this small (1 Mb) update is more noteable for the fact that it comes on top of the 10.3.9 update that has come in for some criticism since its release recently.

Although news sites in the States are yet to discuss the small update, the Apple website indicates the update is intended to "correct issues affecting some Java users following the installation of Mac OS X v10.3.9 Software Update."

UPDATE Apple today unveiled Final Cut Studio, the ultimate HD video production suite that features Final Cut Pro 5, a major upgrade to the Emmy award-winning editing software for DV, SD, HD and film.

Final Cut Studio also includes state-of-the-art tools that complement Final Cut Pro 5 such as Soundtrack Pro, a revolutionary new audio editing and sound design application that makes video projects sound as good as they look; Motion 2, the world's first real-time motion graphics application with GPU accelerated 32-bit float rendering; and DVD Studio Pro 4, the first commercially available DVD authoring software that burns high definition DVDs to the latest HD DVD specification.

Scrunching up close in number terms to the next version of the Mac operating system, 10.3.9 is most likely one of the final substantial updates that Apple will release for Mac OS X 10.3.

The update offers many reliability and compatibility improvements, including issues with Stickies, Safari, Finder improvements and more. The update is available as both a single update download, from your software updates system or in combo form.
