Apple have released an update (approx 103 Mb) for iPhoto '09 that appears to address issues caused by the last update. On their support page (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2797) they indicate the fix is to stop iPhoto from crashing after the last update caused issues. The update can be downloaded here or from the software updates for those with the appropriate version of iPhoto installed.
