Apple has up and announced their 4th of October event publicly just as all the rumours said they would by sending out press invites. The event, featuring the tagline "Let's talk iPhone", isn't shy about the subject matter — all iPhone, all the time. The invitation graphics use four iOS icons that we're all so familiar with by now, and the only real question that remains is what sort of exciting new products we'll see. An iPhone 5? Or just an iPhone 4S? Perhaps even both!
Intel has announced news that will hopefully make those fearful of outdated technology sleep a little easier at night: the current Thunderbolt ports on current-model MacBook Pros, iMacs, and MacBook Airs will be compatible with optic-based cables when they're released sometime next year.
When it comes to applications that come with your Mac, right down the bottom of the list are such inane things as Dictionary applications. However, as pointed out by Dave Caolo, Lion's Dictionary app does have a few new tricks up its sleeve, including a few new view options and little improvements here and there.
Thanks to a little piece of software called Transgaming, FIFA 12 will be making its debut appearance on the Mac. From what I've read, Transgaming is sort of a cross between emulation and virtualisation — you don't have to run the whole OS, just the parts that pertain to whatever program you're trying to run.
