This week marks issue number 300 of the free MacTips newsletter, by New Zealand based Miraz Jordan. For the last six years Miraz's weekly MacTips have informed and helped Mac users to make the most of their machines.
Tips average 400 words and explore the things most Mac users want to do with their machines: email, photos, music, chat, connect an iPod, and so on. The focus is on the software included with a Mac. It was May 2001 when Miraz first realised that she could create a weekly MacTip to answer all those repeated questions her clients kept
asking.

MovieFest 2007 is now accepting entries of digitally created short movies on the topic "In Retrospect".
Looking back to 2001, MovieFest was started by the Wellington Macintosh Society - to promote the use of iMovie and digital video editing on the Mac, it grew to accept entries from any video editors, including Windows and Linux, but still kept it's Apple based roots and rewarded the winners with copies of Final Cut Pro or computers pre-loaded with iMovie supplied by Mac dealers and sponsors.

UPDATE In an email sent on June 14, Parkside Media informed advertisers that New Zealand's first and only Macintosh magazine will cease publication with the forthcoming Issue 34 (July/August 2007), two issues shy of a 6 year run. Ironically the decision (due to a drop in advertising revenue) comes amidst a 6 month period that has seen Apple taking direct ownership of the Apple NZ website, the launch of an iTunes NZ Store, the start of an online Apple store for New Zealanders, as well as Resellers reporting strong sales in Macs.

Management at Parkside Media has chosen to suspend the news service of the Macguide website.
The news was collated each morning by Macguide's editor Mark Webster, and rather than let the service lapse he has chosen to go it alone and serve Mac, Apple and iPod news from his own site.
Check it out for a daily dose of Mac news from New Zealand and around the world. http://web.mac.com/mac.nz

We all know that New Zealand is first to see the light and first to take part in many a global event. The release of Tiger (albeit with slip-ups from some distributors in the States ignored) will be no exception.
Tiger goes on sale at 6pm this Friday and there are a number of locations where you'll be able to pick up a copy, with many Resellers staying open late, some with special events to celebrate the occasion.

UPDATE Imagine paying for a computer in January and being told that you're likely to get hold of it some time in April. That's just one of the examples of the impact of Mac mini delays that are beginning to appear in the NZMac.com Forum, as avid Mac users and those new to the Mac in New Zealand, express frustration at trying to get hold of the latest Mac model from Apple.
Whilst it appears that standard mimi configurations were moderately available within the country in an earlier shipment, trying to get your hands on a more powerful Mac mini with such 'build to order' options as a superdrive, appear to be near impossible, with some people already having waited more than eight weeks.
