So there are three pieces of news from Apple this morning, the first of which is the fact that they've published an official question and answer page on the location data hubub surrounding the iPhone 4. Apple say they've never been storing actual GPS locations of your moments, just a collection of Wi-Fi hotspots and cell towers around your location, just in case your location needs to be quickly determined in the future — as such, what Apple are doing is very similar to what Skyhook did when they collected the locations of all those Wi-Fi hotspots all that time ago. That information is then sent back to Apple, who then use it in an anonymous capacity. IPod touch users thank you — without your location data, their location information would be much more inaccurate.

I don't normally announce press releases for companies other than Apple, but Captivate is a product I have used weekly since version 2 and I am so pleased to see it at version 5. Why? Well version 5 is the first version for the Mac, so it's one less reason to boot into Windows. Captivate is a very sophisticated screen capture tool that is superb for people in roles like mine (elearning) or instructional design. I've had the privilege of beta testing it, so I'm so pleased to see it out on the Mac! Press release follows...

FileMaker has announced new dates and a new headquarters hotel with a lower room rate for its 2010 Developer Conference.
