Tiger, eMacs and iMacs in April? Print

Image The speculation has started over the time at which the next version of the Mac operating system (named "Tiger") will be released. While many sites are speculating that a June release is likely, some sites are suggesting the quietness of Apple Computer at the moment points to activity gearing up for final release.

Hot on the heals of this talk is a number of rumour websites beginning to suggest April is in fact the date Mac OS X 10.4 will be released along with a new iMac G5 and also a possible eMac update.

Cautionery readers will realise that the speculation to the April release which is spreading over the net at the moment may in fact be one rumour site adopting the views of another (indeed Apple Insider has a report that is based upon the Think Secret news)...and after all, rumour sites rarely suggest they were wrong, just that some of the rumours didn't quite pan out as they expected.

That said, Think Secret, a site that often hits the mark (to the point that Apple has recently taken it to court) was one of the first  sites to suggest:

Think Secret comments....

"Apple will officially announce Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger's release at an event in early April and will begin shipping the operating system within two or three weeks afterwards, Think Secret has learned. Apple has previously only stated that Tiger will ship during the first half of the 2005."

At the same time as this information was released, Macworld reports that Apple has been successful in one of the first stages of its fight against rumour sites....

"Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge James Kleinberg ruled in Apple's favor on Friday and the company could obtain records from PowerPage email provider Nfox. Lawyers for the Web site said they plan to appeal the decision."

Whilst the news and rumours fly about, it will be an interesting time over the next few months as we move towards a release of Apple's next operating system. Only time, rumour sites and Apple Computer will finally let us know when that is.
