The NZiPhone.com and NZMac.com News app has been updated to version 1.3 and will appear in the App Store shortly, and with it comes support for the iPhone 4. The app features a slight new look in that some of the tab icons (the tab is the bottom part of the screen) have changed, and this is due to using icons that have both a standard and high-res (for the retina display) version within the app. At the same time, text and other aspects of the app should be crystal clear to those with an iPhone 4. This was all incredibly easy to do, thanks in part to the amazing TapLynx framework used to build the app. So what are you waiting for? Download the free app now and keep up-to-date with all the happenings on NZMac.com and NZiPhone.com!

Tonight the site's community section was updated with some superb new features...most notably a new integrated event management system. If you have an NZ Mac related meeting happening (physically or virtually), then why not promote it on NZMac.com or invite site users? This feature allows you to create and manage events easily. It will also intelligently display maps as required with zero configuration. You can define how many "seats" are available for an event, which allows you to limit event participants if needed.

In my "Year that was" blog post on NZMac.com, I commented that for a number of reasons, I was unable to get together a New Year contest for either site, most notably because I'm swamped with study. Well, it just didn't seem right not to start the year off with something, so I've put together a contest that is easy to enter and has some gifts I bought from the Apple Company Store when I visited mid-year (this is the shop that sits next to Apple HQ at Cupertino) and some other goodies I've put together. I'm sorry it's not more, but it's still pretty good...and very easy for you to enter.

Got a Facebook account? Yeah, me neither...but I hear that many people do...and now you can use that account to register and login to NZMac.com instead of registering separate password details. It adds an extra level of security for you, as authentication (logging in) is all handled by Facebook and not NZMac.com. None of your Facebook authentication details (i.e., your email and password) are sent to or stored by NZMac.com. And the great news is that those users already registered here can convert their account login to use Facebook.

Time to give away some prizes and goodies from my trip to the Apple Company Store at One Infinite Loop, Cupertino...oh, and two copies of the Snow Leopard Upgrade when it is released by Apple. This competition will run until that date and is an opportunity to add to the site or prove to us that you're Mac geek!

Interested in reviewing a great new anti-virus program for the Mac? iAntiVirus is specifically designed to detect and remove Mac-specific threats and does not contain any unnecessary information about Windows-based threats – this ensures that the product is lightweight and its memory footprint and system resource usage is kept to an absolute minimum. iAntiVirus is actually free, but we'll be supplying the nominated user with a license key to gain access to customer support services.

I'm pleased to announce a significant update to the community section of NZMac.com. From now on, you'll be able to link video clips from numerous sites around the web into your own community area...and decide who should get to see them. But that's not all....you can now upload and play video clips on NZMac.com itself!! This new functionality will let you provide other users with an occasional video commentary or video to explain an issue. But enough text...watch this explanatory video instead....

NZiPhone.com has been part of Apple's iTunes Affiliate program for a few months, but it has only been in recent days that the affiliate scheme has released accurate links to generate commission on iTunes paid app purchases. This means when you visit NZiPhone.com, you can support the site at no extra cost when purchasing paid apps via an iTunes link in each review.

Over recent months NZMac.com has reached a statistical milestone....over 1,000,000 hits per month for the site! I decided to wait to until that figure appeared for at least two consecutive months before mentioning it...and the good news is that it seems to be continuing to climb. What's really great is that these results are well after the server attacks have ended, so the statistic isn't being manipulated by those bygone attacks.
