The official release of the iPhone into New Zealand brings with it the ability to bring new functionality to the NZMac.com and NZiPhone.com websites in the form of "web apps". These apps are basically web-based versions of the sites designed specifically to work with the iPod Touch and iPhone. They provide easy access to news and forum posts (and blog posts for NZMac.com) and can be stored as icons on the iPhone/iPod Touch for easy access when you want to check out the site.

{{update}} I'm already an owner of Delicious Library 2, having purchased based on the discussions we've been having in the forum about this incredible product (it won an Apple Design Award for "Best Apple OS X Leopard Application" before Leopard itself was even finished!) ...and now it's the turn of another lucky NZMac.com user to get their hands on the software and write a review for us.

It has taken some time for me to get the numbers all collated and to sit down and have a good read of the great comments that everyone submitted in the site survey that took place in January. As I said just after the end of the survey, many of the comments and very constructive criticisms confirmed things that I had in mind for the site already...and I'll try and put my head down this year and work on them....although it won't be a quick change...more a maturing of the site over the year.
I wanted to post some interesting stats from the survey and some of the great comments that I received from everyone. All comments have been greatly appreciated and many of them have impacted some of the things I'm keeping in mind for the site. Obviously, I want to keep those kinda secret as I work on them...but thanks again, and here's to a great year.{!jomcomment}

I'm pleased to announce the launch of a revised Mac Business Directory, with new enhancements that will benefit both site users and the businesses that have free listings in the directory. As has always been the case, standard listings are free for New Zealand businesses that support Mac users.
Perhaps the most interesting enhancement is the ability for users to write reviews of the services that business provide. Previously users were only able to rate companies. Businesses are welcome to encourage customers/clients to register and provide a review and rating. [Businesses - please see end of article]

NZMac.com is 5 years old today and kicks off the year with a site survey and a chance for you to get your hands on an incredible prize package worth hundreds of dollars, with 7 consolation prizes on offer also! The site survey and contest will stay open until midnight on January 31st, 2008. Only one entry per postal address. Those outside of New Zealand or those who do not wish to be considered for the prizes are most welcome to complete the survey anyway, as all feedback helps.

Hot off the software presses, comes Norton AntiVirus 11 for Mac, Symantec's new Leopard-compatible anti-virus application, and the lovely people at Symantec have a copy for some lucky site user to review for NZMac.com. This news item is a call for you to indicate your interest in reviewing the software.
The new Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard-compatible version of Norton AntiVirus features new vulnerability protection technology, which delivers protection where many of today's attacks occur - through applications connected to the Internet. Norton AntiVirus 11 for Mac also features a sleeker, redesigned user interface and enhanced performance. Norton AntiVirus is the number one selling antivirus solution for Mac. It automatically detects and removes viruses in addition to scanning and cleaning downloaded files and e-mail attachments.

The commenting and blogging tools have been upgraded today on NZMac.com, with new functionality for users. The commenting tool has been enhanced with features allowing users to vote for comments, bookmark stories into some of the more popular social sites (Facebook included) as well as the ability to subscribe to comment threads and store a list of favourite stories to track for registered users.
The major change to the blogging tool is a revamp in how entries are put into the system. Previously users were taken to a confusing separate page to make their blog entry and had little control over the tags to associate with the story. The new version brings blog writing to within the site, whilst adding user tagging and the ability to embed video clips.

Many NZMac.com users have taken the opportunity to support the NZMac.com website when shopping online at the {{applestore}}....thank you! From today, that process gets a little easier in that NZMac.com is bringing a little of the online store onto the NZMac.com website for your viewing pleasure...and you can continue to support the site at no extra cost.
The "Apple Store NZ @ NZMac.com" feature (available in the top horizontal menu bar) gives you access to the top products currently available online. Using the "Buy Now" button in this area, you will then be redirected to the {{applestore}} to see extra detail and complete your shopping with Apple. Please note that this is not an online shopping system for NZMac.com...just a way for you to see some of the more popular products available and to support NZMac.com through that purchase.
