{{update}}I'm really pleased to be able to offer these coffee mugs to you, to allow you to support the NZMac.com website. In the end I decided to go with mugs from CafePress.com that I have used before. It allows me to offer you a high quality coffee mug with a full colour NZMac.com logo and a choice of two sizes (standard or large). It does mean they are a little more expensive than first planned, but they are fantastic quality and you're in the running to win if you support the site.

There are 13 standard and 14 large coffee mugs available.....but there are also amazing prizes up for grabs to purchasers! Update - ALL SOLD OUT!!

It's hard to believe that NZMac.com will turn 5 years old at midnight on New Year's Eve. I can still recall flicking the website switch that night and watching as NZMac.com received its first contest entry a matter of minutes later. The site has seen some incredible changes over the years and it's great to be able to offer you a chance to join in the celebration by winning a host of goodies, donated to the site from some wonderful people and companies.

This list is being published now, not only to promote the forthcoming birthday, but also to let you see the list of goodies up for grabs which will grow as we get nearer the time. {!jomcomment}

reviewers_announced.png The very kind folk at Parallels have offered a copy of Parallels Desktop 3.0 (a superb product I'm already using) to an NZMac.com user for review and publishing on this site. This news item is a call for you to indicate your interest in reviewing the software.

Parallels Desktop for Mac enables you to run Windows, Linux and more, side-by-side with Mac OS X on any Intel-powered Mac, without rebooting. With Parallels' award-winning virtualisation technology, you can run Mac OS X and your favourite Windows applications at the same time. You can even drag-and-drop files between desktops!

The move to a new integrated forum system was to resolve a number of issues, mostly between what was effectively a standalone (but bridged) forum system and the rest of the site.

The next step will be to introduce new features into the site that would have previously been quite challenging...one of those will be the ability for site users to have their own blogs on the NZMac.com site! This feature is currently under development but I wanted to take the opportunity to announce it as I will be launching a trial version of the functionality shortly. At the same time, users will be able to provide input into its implementation.

NZMac.com is to be featured as a case study in a forthcoming book on Joomla, the open source content management system that drives this site. Written by Barrie North of Compass Design, the book will take you step-by-step through everything you need to know to develop a professional looking web site powered by the CMS. The book gives a general overview of management of the CMS and explains how to create and lay out content to the best effect.

Barrie and fellow designer Casey Lee are the driving force behind Joomlashack.com, which develops commercial Joomla templates including the design currently used by NZMac.com.

I'm thrilled to report that NZMac.com has been accepted into the Apple Store NZ affiliate program. This means that if you surf to the Apple Store NZ via an Apple advert on NZMac.com and decide to make a purchase, a contribution from your purchase (at no extra cost to you) of any product (Apple or third party items) will be returned to NZMac.com to help support the site.

I'm really pleased to be given entry into this program as it means that you can provide support to NZMac.com without it costing you anything extra at all! If you decide to make a purchase via the {{applestore}} online (regardless of whether it's personal or work related) I would encourage you to start your visit by clicking an advert on this site...it's as simple as that!

{{update}}It's been some time since we've had a contest on NZMac.com and certainly a long time since we've had so many items up for grabs, with an opportunity for you to contribute and enhance what's on the site for the benefit of other users. And it's up to you to do a little or do a lot to increase your winning chances.

Thanks to the generosity of Toshcomputers.com (formerly appledirectseller.com), NZMac.com is going to be giving away 60 (that's right...sixty!) neoprene laptop sleeves of assorted sizes for 13", 15" and 17" laptops, to be handed out as stock becomes available (I have some now, others are to arrive later). Even better...these sleeves are branded with the NZMac.com web address! Hmmm...I think I'm going to have to make it 59 cases, as I seriously want one!

There is a possibly that the site may be temporarily offline near the end of the month. Forum users are strongly encouraged to download their avatar (if they use one) and any private messages they have in the forum, as soon as possible.

Many New Zealand Mac-related businesses have asked for an opportunity to provide more information about their services to Mac users in New Zealand via the NZMac.com website. Currently businesses are able to promote their services through exceptionally low cost advertising, free advertising and promotion for competition sponsorship (http://www.nzmac.com/advertise.html) and via a free listing in the site's Mac Business Directory.

From today, the opportunity to provide information is expanded, with NZMac.com's new "Focus On..." feature. It's a way for New Zealand based Mac-related businesses to provide greater detail on their Mac-related services and/or products whilst also supporting NZMac.com and its users.

This is a feature that I had hoped to implement much earlier than this, but things got ahead of me a little. I'm please to announce a new feature allowing existing site authors (and other selected users of the site) to submit news items for publishing on the NZMac.com front page. Authors will see a new "Submit News" option in the left main menu when they are logged in.

There is no compulsion for users to participate in this process, however it is hoped that it will allow for an expansion in the amount of Mac-related news that is published, as well as an opportunity for User Groups to publish news items if they see fit.
