As many of you are aware, NZMac.com offers users of the site a free email account with a massive 2 GB of mail storage. This service was launched with the help of Google, who provides sites with the option of using their "Google Applications For Your Domain" (GAFYD) services. It means that I can offer you an email address that ends with "@nzmac.com", without having to invest huge sums of money to do so.

Today, Google have released new functionality to GAFYD users, in the form of their web-based Docs and Spreadsheet services...meaning you get 2 GB of email space and the ability to create web-based documents and spreadsheets....all from your NZMac.com email address account! To celebrate this fact, today I introduce "my.NZMac.com Services"

I'm often asked for recommendations by Mac users (and those less fortunate) as to which ISP to go with for broadband services. As you will no doubt notice, this site features advertising from Orcon and I'm with them for my home broadband as part of our arrangement. I couldn't be happier with their service.

Recently I once again suggested Orcon to someone wanting advice...after all they are the TUANZ ISP of the Year Award 2006 and NZ Macguide's "Best Internet Service Provider for Mac". But at the same time I decided to contact Orcon and see if there was anything I could do to help those that ask. Orcon has been fantastic in their response and so I take great pleasure in introducing the "NZMAC Promo Code", which will give all new and transferring broadband customers joining/moving to Orcon, a one-off $30 credit on their account!

So how do you like getting your site news stories? Some like it by visiting the site, some widget (I've made that a verb for a moment!), some subscribe to the NZMac.com news feed using Safari's RSS news system, some Firefox, Google or even NetNewsWire. Others pop in to see what's happening on a daily basis and to have a great old natter in the discussion forum.

Then some days you get just too swamped to do even that.

So imagine if you could get an email any time NZMac.com adds a new front page news story, review or feature. You can now. Thanks to the new "NZMac.com News Bulletin" service.

Coincidences are a great thing! NZMac.com site users have been having discussions in the {{forumlink}} about streaming New Zealand radio stations within iTunes recently whilst at the same time, the NZMac.com news and forum widget was finally re-released.

As I checked on my listing of the widget on the Apple.com site, I spotted a widget that streamed radio stations, contacted the author and have spent the past two days furiously developing an NZMac.com version for NZ Radio stations...and here it is! It's at version 0.6, but I'm just too excited to keep it quiet!

Well many moons ago there was a discussion about having story commenting on the site....and I put my foot down and brought in "relevant link" commenting but nothing else.

To do that, I had to modify an open source component quite heavily...and keep track of all the changes I had made. I've been very pleased with how the component has worked, despite the fact that it hasn't been updated for some time....in fact I think it's dead in the water....making it increasingly hard to maintain as Joomla evolves.

This is an idea I have had for the site for quite some time...but is an idea that is going to succeed or fail with YOU, not me. Why? Well for two reasons....First, any attempt at writing the history of Apple and Macintosh computers in New Zealand requires a collective approach (your experiences are what make the history of Apple in New Zealand)...and second...I can't for the life of me get to grips with wikis! ;-)

So here it is...an attempt to develop a communal (is that the right term?) historical document related to Apple and Macintosh computers in New Zealand...using a technical system that allows for the NZMac.com-munity to work together on its contents.
